Odd knocking noise has started since coilovers have Been fitted!?

  Italian 3.2 V6
Anyone had an odd Bad knocking noise after H&R coilovers n front camber has been fitted, mainly get it in reverse or on near hard-full lock..? An the odd time going forward, more so at slow speeds rather than quicker speeds!?

car is lowerd around 50-60mm n front camber is at full..

It's obv due to height or camber but more to it being the camber I think, Any suggestions or anyone else got this!? Anything to worry about? Lol..

Cheers, piers.

I get this all the time with my Cup, as well as when moving away slowly and stopping I get this knocking.... Checked all the mounts and any big bolts underneath/in the engine bay and still get it, just something i've got used to yet nothing has broken yet so it can't be that bad!

would really think the tracking would be first port of call as that should really be done once coilovers are fitted imo even with you needing spacers.

yeah it may not be the cause, but still worth getting it checked imo.

Lol.. How much does this usualy cost to get done? May spend my money on some pe2s instead of spacers if that's not the answer, After all that faff ay!! Haha!

Also, not sure if it's any help, but seems to be coming from front left hand wheel area..?

When you built the coilovers back up (just before you put them in) did you make sure the little nut was tight on the rubber topmouts?

When i fitted my solid top mounts the other week and took out my H&R's the little nut was allarmingly loose. Could be somthing to do with that!?

You should not get any knocking with H&R's. I had two sets on a 172 and 182 and never had any issues. I suggest locking at top mounts, or how the shocks have been built up as suggested.

Hmmmm, i suppose you could wizz the big rubber topmount thing off and have a look. Depends if you could wizz it tight again.

I'm sure it will be ok, but deffently get it looked at.

Piers - I would say its your top mount!....my cup used to knock when turning on full lock, found the subframe bolt was slightly loose! :S but I would check your top mount, does it do it when on uneven road surface?

Ok, cheers guys,

right will I have to jack to car up to do this!? Or can I just jump striaght into the engine bay and loosen the top mount and check!?

Also what tool is best to use!? Good big Socket set?

Cheers.

Into the engine bay! :) you may need to modify a socket so you can undo the top mount with out the strut 'spinning' you need an allen key in the top and turn the nut at the same time.

lol, opted for a pro to do the job, got my good friend ben (Casson182) who is popping over tmrw to have a listen and a fiddle around ;)

so we will see what happens tmrw.

Thread bump

This nut!

If thats yours its loose lol

I have the same with mine but have found what it is, Basically i jacked it up and gave the wheel a wobble as i thought the balljoint had gone, Wasnt that.

So grabbed the top of the strut unter the arch and wobbled that, and got a bit of play, Whats loose on mine is the top spring pan i can pull down on it and theres 2-3mm of play, The top mount is bolted up tight and theres no more thread for the little nut to go down anymore, I think the only solution is solid top mounts firstly to stop the knocking you get on factory set up on full lock, and a couple of washers under the top spring pan so it all bolts tight. I have about 5mm of thread poking through the top mount once its all installed and bolted up to the chassis and on the floor too

It had me scratching my head but thats what i traced it down to and thats all that was loose. Obviously once its lowered it all becomes tight as the cars weight is on it, but every now and then you can hear a slight knock

^^ I also noticed that the top mount top cap, Catches on the chassis when the wheel is on on full lock, I think this is the part Renault must grind away to stop it

lol forgot about this tread.. oops..

well i got a mate to check if anything was loos, and he said all should be ok :S but cars getting bookeidn in at JMS start of Nov and iv asked them to have alook at it (re-asemble it if need be) so hopefully they will sort it out :S

cheers anyway Rich!
