Oil change on 182. Have I got OCD?!

Third time now with the car on 18,600 miles. The first around the 6k mark I did, followed by the 2nd oil change by Reno on it's 12k service.

Probably getting a bit obsessive on this methinks. Still, it can't do the engine any harm!

Every 6k for me.. and filter change. Keeps things running smooth.

Just the stuff the main dealer puts in.

It had it's 12k just before Oulton Park and was noticably dirtier after it. It's on 16k now so I'll get it done again in 2k miles, if I've still got it.

Probably Sainsburys corn oil, lol!

My first oil change came out like expresso coffee (both consistency and colour). Since then, I've only had ELF fully-synth, and it puts up with a LOT.

I've done the same for the gearbox - ELF fully synth. When that was changed, it too appeared a bit sad for itself (despite the fact that it wasn't due for a change for another 50k).

The main dealers dont put fully synthetic oil in during service. It appeared on my invoice as "semi synth 10 w 40" which is what they put in the bog std clios. It burns up a bit quicker too from my experience.

When I went to my Renault dealer to get some fully synth, the chief engineer was kind enough to come out. Very nice and seemed knowledgable. Told me not to waste my money on fully synth as it was just a marketing con; semi does just as good a job. He certainly had nothing to gain from advising me this - told me off the record to go and save some money from buying somewhere else, too!

Well if renault who build the engines recommend 5w 40 for rs models then thats what I want in mine. Its just to save the garage the time, hastle and cash of buying the right oil for the car, when they can use the same oil as all the other cars.

I stuck 5w 50 fully synth in mine this time around. The worrying thing for me was that the magnet on the sump bolt had worked loose. Probably highly unlikely that the magnet would have been sucked up into the rest of the engine, but you never know. Replaced the entire plug and washer now though.
