oil coolers

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
mocal rock.. i had a 13row on my gti... 10 row would of done but... it looked better with a 13 row behind the grill

  130i, 306 hdi, vrs
With oil coolers in cold weather the oil doesn't get up to correct temp there for driving round with cold oil not lubricating the engine ,

personally i would not bother not unless your running 400bhp !

  Evo 8 Jap Crap
It warms up the same as normal cause the stat on the cooler wont open until 80 degrees ;)

  Clio 172 mk2
I wouldn't bother with one either unless my car was heavily modified or I was doing a lot of track work.

  CTR--VX220D
Im getting one for track work, Im also fitting a thermostat so that oil is only released into the cooler once upto temp.

Obviously not researched them properly then!

Inline stat solves that problem, or like mine I have the sandwhich plate.

I've got a 16row one but you only really need a 13row one.

Get one with a stat and it warms up to above 70 like standards cars.

I managed 125degrees on my standard valver once so it's a worthwhile mod for all valvers really.

Never see above 100 now, apart from when on track when it peaks at about 105/110.

Great for road use as it just sits at 80/85 on the m/way which is much better than standard.....

LOL thought you were taking the piss.

I know about making sure the oil warms up enough, never considered it getting too hot though!

new oils are better, 120-130 is 'ok'......but you dont want to be there if you dont have to.

My valver used to run 135 on mobil1 racing 15w50 at track days........

  RB 182 with CUP packs
I thought so.

Is there anyway of running 2 stats on the cooler?
Say one on the sandwich plate & another inline?

Daft idea I know, but if one fails you'd always have the other to safe you.

well its not about to get cooler than ambient temp, which isnt exactly uber freezing.

And in the winter you just put tape across the cooler anyway.

anywhere you want, but it depends if you want to check oil temps in the block, sump, or lines into/out of the cooler.

Ditto :dapprove: I have to limit myself to 10-12mins on track before it gets up close to 140....cost me a fortune in oil changes before and after every trackday too lol
