oil filter removal

i'm currently doing an oil and filter change on my clio but my oil filter chain tool wont budge the filter! Any tips?

Im sure it will budge with more power! I assume you have removed the fuel rail guard for better access?

i was considering the pikey method of getting it off but i managed to do it with the chain in the end, trouble was the harder i pulled on it it was just crushing the filter but it budged in the end, still say its a retarded place to put it, all the oil in the filter runs down the block! I did put a rag underneath but that didn't do much lol

these are the best ive found for removing them up to now the chain ones are rubbish

invest in one if your going to be servicing your car yourself, can get alot more leverage on the ratchet then the flimsy chain job.

First time I done mine it hadn't been done for a while and it took over an hour (really) of messing to get off with a chain tool.

Since then I've done it twice and it's been tight, but once you get the knack of how to get the chain on and do it it's a minute or two job, seeing as I only do it once or twice a year I'm happy with the chain and I dont even remove the fuel rail guard. If I done it more frequently I'd buy one of those above though, would make it even easier.

Never had a problem to be honest, key is to not put it back on with the tool.

Just a bit of oil around the seal and then as tight as you can get it by hand.

You got a link to where you got this from Jenic? Anyone know if the 197 filter is the same as 1*2? Guessing since they're both F4r its the same?

I just bought some the other day to do mine and they worked perfectly.

if your using a leather or plastic strap tool, try slipping a sheet of 600 grade wet and dry between the strap and filter. Has always worked well for me. oh and remember ,lefty loosy, righty tighty, ;)

a marigold normally gives me enough leverage to do it by hand. however i did have to resort to a chain type tool once on my mates car - it destroyed the filter and only just loosened it before there was no solid surface left to grip

I used one of these. Just took the fuel rail off to gain enough access. Put a rag under the filter, however it did still leak

makes life so much easier for the sake of removing a couple of bolts

i cant grab the filter otherwise Lol

if you are really struggling to remove the filter then next thing needing to be changed will be the dephaser pulley :p

Whoever the drunken gibbon was that fitted the oil filter to mine has done a right job on it - just beaten the crud out of it with a screwdriver to no avail, my chain-whip wouldn't budge it either.
Going to have to cycle to the factors tomorrow for a set of those pliers :mad:
