Oil question

Right, 2 of my "dots" have become empty on my oil display... I know people say use 5w40 in the 172s, but will 0w40 be ok to top it up?

Reason i ask is because last time i was in the local motorsport shop they had some leaking bottles of http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp_internet/castrol/castrol_germany/STAGING/local_assets/images/products/rs0w_new_castrol_de_106x253.jpgTHIS STUFF in 0w-40 reduced to £2 so i bought some.

so will that 0w40 be ok to top up with?

Think some oils dont mix well but youd be best doing a search of posts made by oilman to get the lowdown.

My view would be that it would be better to fill up with whatever oil you can get rather than run low, as I would have thought low level would cause more harm than 2 slightly different grades of oil.

right mate. best thing iv always been told is to stick with what you know ( however with that theory you will never learn and change.) lol

I personally wouldnt mix to be honest

it will be fine, ideally you want to stay with the same oil so all the ingredients are kept at the same level, but, it will be ok

It wont be in there for long anyway... due for a service soon so will change all the oil.
