oil

  Clio 182 & Saxo VTR
Oil £50-£60 (thats based on a 5 litre and 1 litre top up on the oil recommended above)
Filter £5-£10
Sump plug and washer £1

Delivery charges (unless your picking it up local) and your probably shy of £80. As said £100 will easily cover it.

You'll only need 5 litres of oil even when you change the oil filter , that takes it up to the MAX line on the dipstick .

I asked how much oil the system takes and was told just under 5 litres. Flushing the system and topping up the system when it drinks oil and the 1 litre would come in handy. Ive always bought a topup.

Renault say it takes 5.1 litre with the filter change , i've never needed more than 5 litres . If you don't change the oil filter 4.75 litres is usually enough .

The only time my 182 ever used any oil was when i bought it new and needed a slight top up after a couple of months . I changed the oil after 6 months and it's never used a drop since . My 172 never needed topping up either .

Renault do say that they " can " use 1 litre per 1000 miles though

yeh mine has never dropped much, i would always change the filter at the same time as the oil - pretty much common knowledge isnt it

elf excellium 5w40

I'm looking at swapping from Excellium 5W40 due to my engine sounding a bit rattly after spirited drives on hot days. (I'm talking 40+ degrees Celcius so it may not worry most people on here! :) )

We don't get Sikolene or Millers in Australia :( so I'm looking at Motul (300 or 8100) or Redline 5W40.

Mobil stuff isnt' as good! Is mobil stuff semi synth? Silkolene is fully synth i think. You get what you pay for.

Do a search for some oil thread or a post by oilman there was some good reading in there somewher.
