What was the mk2 like to drive then? @LiquidYellDan

Great and crap in equal measure.
Was bloody quick but handled like a boat.
Was a great car to go for a drive in, loads of appreciative waves, nods and comments. It looked lovely

Even though it had uprated shocks and springs and a few poly bushed parts, it was like a wallowy lump in the bends... Could feel chassis flexing. I think I'm just too used to modern cars. I couldn't trust it in the bends. Lol
Would wheelspin in most gears with slightest sign of moisture, due to standard skinny wheels and no diff or electronic aids whatsoever. This made it more annoying than fun to drive... Was only about 220bhp too

Sounded and went well though, surprised a few people [emoji41]
It would have cost a further few K to get it driving A1, with a diff etc, and I couldn't face ploughing more money into it, incase I still didn't like it.

I love retro cars!!! Metro has to be the best. Turned down the oppoortunity to buy a nice MG Metro the other year, but I had my sensible head on and didn't do it. Would have been the perfect daily car
The closest thing I have "owned" to a retro hot hatch was the previous track car at home - Mk 1 Fiesta. Had a 2ltr Zetec in. I think I would replace the Clio with another

what has the mk2 striker got in it?
That was my step dad's. Was built with a 1.6 Cross flow in it then he started it whilst in gear and it hit that bench and damaged the bonnet. But he couldn't get a replacement one so had to get the new style bonnet and then he dropped a 2ltr Blacktop Zetec in it and kept the twin Webber carbs on. It didn't half shift and made a hell of a noise. He sold it soon after the engine swap. This picture is with the Cross Flow in as its not the new bonnet.

@KitsonRis that fiesta sounds great! Bet it shifts with a 2 zetec. Any more pics?
Like old fords. [emoji106]
It was the first track car at home that we didn't "build". Made quite a bit of money from the old Triumph we built so decided to buy something ready to go. It was pretty nippy. Was the first quick car I ever drove but I never drove it like it deserved. I managed a 59second lap around Llandow in it, Step dad was doing 56seconds. Unfortunately it had to go as my parents sold the house and the new one didn't have space to store it and the trailer. But the next car was the Clio so it all wasn't too bad!

I know it's not a hatch back or hot, but it is proper cool and old! And it is where the track cars at home started.
The day we got it. The chrome bumpers did not last long enough for a photo

To this. With an BMW E30 325i engine in

I do love an old car. 80s/90s hot hatches really were the coolest!

Couple of my old cars first.

Escort 1.6S (RS2000 rep apart from the bonnet):

I know it's a saloon, but it was retro and awesome. Orion 1600E:

Some random ones...

My friend's Delta HF 4WD:

S2 RS Turbo. I went in this very car, it was a genuine 320+ bhp 1.6 CVH, it was an absolute missile. 160+ in a MK4 Escort is an eye-opening experience:

I seem to recall you didn't get on with it too great though?

Has to be my choice though remember that one for sale and thinking to myself if only it was in another colour. Love the williams.

Cheers @Mr Burns yes I agree about the rs2000, I have no idea why I sold it. I loved the thing, strangley fast too. Had rs7's on that fetch good money now, Gaz gold coilovers, nicest sounding exhaust ever. The car had only done 60k too

safe5.jpg

Also had this gem, I ended up ruining it by putting a rs2000 engine in it. Should of left it standard, another low mileage one and absolutely mint

This is the one I should of kept, not a mark on it, totally standard, low mileage rs2000 4x4. These are so rare now and gave it away at £1800 about 5 years ago

Now I own a £400 Clio diesel lol

Love the RS2000s @theburns1

I've owned two road cars and have two rally ones now. I think the Clio is the only car I've owned that has come close to sounding as rough and angry as an RS2000 with decent exhaust/induction on it. They get a lot of stick from people, but I think they are really underrated cars. Finding nice ones is getting difficult and values are on the up. I'd still love a nice near-standard road going one to sit alongside my rally cars I must say.

Cheers mate! Yes I'd have another, but would have to be mint. You're talking £5k now for a mint one, I ain't got that kind of money now. Always remember my brother having that 2 or 3 year old 182 and loving it, then he let me drive it or I moved it, one of the 2. Got back in my rs2000 and couldn't believe how much better the build quality was. My mate had a gti and the 2 compared were miles apart, like 2 totally different cars. Really miss mine and wish I'd help on to the 4x4 and had it wax oiled ect. 4x4 go for silly money now

Yes I know what you mean. As well as a couple of RS2000s, I've also had two MK6 Escorts with 2.0 Zetecs in and they are just not the same at all. A friend of mine had a 2.0 Zetec MK6 with about 160bhp and although it was probably just as fast as an RS2000, it just didn't have the character of the RS. A lot of people don't "get" the RS2000 but I think they're good fun.

As you say though, strong money for a good one now.

I always love the "not a real RS" quote, erm............ RS stands for rally sport, rs2000's were made for rallying. How is it not a real RS lol. I want another after looking at my pics
