O2 wont have a clue, some shop monkey isnt going to know Apples top secret plans! lol..

They wont let you do it though. If you buy something just before a new one comes out then thats tough..

There wont be massive changes between the 3G and the new one anyway I wouldnt have thought..

he means 4th generation (i hope) not 4G being better than 3G (net)

o2 wont tell you. its not been confirmed from apple and they wont speculate

yeah the .1's and .1.1's are usually for the small updates arent they. like small fixes and the odd changes or 2. and the 1.0's for huge changes.

as far as i can tell new one is only going to be either smaller or more memory. seriously doubt significant hardware changes, that just an opinion though.

i definitely wouldn't be upgrading right now.

doubt they will make it smaller cuz of the screen. maybe a bit thinner. im sure the new one will have a better camera as that is one of the things people complain about most. would need flash too for a good quality camera.

Well I have made a few basic enquiries within O2 and there is "nothing" going round at present with regards to any new models.

Hopefully I will be made aware if there is anything info going round later on :)

Tbh don't think o2 will no much until they have the release date, apple like to keep it close to their chest.

I expect the new iPhone will appear during the summer and for reasons already mentioned I do not think o2 will allow a early upgrade.

O2 shops never know about iPhones until they are announced, simple.

The next one I think might have:

Better camera
Flash (I hope)
Bigger screen with better res (to rival the touch HD)

Put your details in, job done.

Settings
Mail, contacts, etc
Add Account
****OTHER**** - This bit is important
Then put your details in.

I'd imagine a decent camera with flash would mean they wouldn't be able to shave much of the size off it... and a bigger screen would in turn bring with it a bigger size.

Higher resolution would be nice, but hardly essential.

windows live.. However, still have @hotmail.co.uk at the end of my email.

Just installed the 3.0 beta. Quite a few bugs so far, and I don't seem to be able to sign into YouTube. But I can't wait to try the A2DP Bluetooth music streaming tomorrow morning with my Sony CD Player. My old Sony Ericsson had it and it was fantastic. I could pla the music without having to use an iPod cable or Aux cable, just left it in my pocket and controlled the songs with the control stalk.


A new iPhone is rumoured to be announced on June 2nd. Check the Wiki page. O2 will have no idea untill it's annouced at that show on the 2nd.

Firmware 1.0 - 1st Gen iPhone released (July 2nd, 2007)
Firmware 2.0 - 2nd Gen 2G iPhone released (July 2nd, 2008)
Firmware 3.0 - ?????? (July 2nd, 2009)

I'm sure you can see where this is going.

I may install the 3.0 beta and see what I think of it, the code is on the newsgroups and torrents.

Cancel that idea, just read that you need a developer id in order to activate the iPhone.

LOL o2 won't know anything!

More memory is dependent on ram chips becoming available that have the same size footprint as the current ones, as of sep last year nobody was making them and it didn't look like they would be for a while. There's no space inside for more chips in the iPhone.

I wouldnt bother, i put the 3.0 ipsw on my 2g.
Its very much a beta.

Hi res screen wont make the apps reduntant. Works same as your PC does, applications can scale to different resolutions.

I can see it being thinner, 32GB, better screen and maybe a usb port?

Its not going to be too hard to figure out the changes


  • OLED Screen (possibly higher res or simply an increased PPI) - The most important change.
  • 802.11n - This is doubtful as its really not that important
  • Bluetooth 2.1 (Because of its NFC abilities)
  • 3.2/5mpx camera, certain
  • Lighter/thinner possibly not plastic due to recycling issues.
  • 16gb entry level 32gb optional
  • Better speaker/battery/mic
  • Enhanced 3g chipset
