Paint Correcting in tricky to reach places

This is something I've always wondered how people seem to manage without problems, however I just find it a general PITA.

So things I'm talking about is:

around badges without removing them
Tailgate on clio between wiper and boot handle surround
Clio Rear bumper where insert is
Clio Front bumper around grills, fog surrounds, washer blanks/jets, around front badge?

It's just one of the annoying things I find and ends up taking hours to do properly.

Anyone give me any advice on paint correcting these areas or whether to remove the grills/inserts/badges etc???

I want to do a full on detail on my trophy soon and dont care how long it takes, may even dable in a little wet sanding if it needs it.

Do you have a rotary polisher? A DA?

I'm going to guess you heard of spot pads and backing plates?

It's really just the same as correcting full panels usually just more making required.

For example badges are masked around then you're correcting to the edge of the tape.

Bumper wise i've no idea what you mean as it's the easiest rear bumper i've ever had to correct. Nice and flat.

Spot pad and an extension?

Sure I've seen a few DW threads where people have a "post" (for want of the technical term) extending the read of their polishers.

What Gally said. On top of that, generally it's as far as your prepared to go, and if your not a microfibre, cotton buds etc and something like srp/s17 will get into the small areas. If you are then its a case of remove badges, trim, lights, bumpers to get a spot pad into the area. Unfortunately there isn't a magic detailing trick here! As mention above a extension bar can help position the bulky machine polisher away from the paint.

hope that helps!

Some parts like Chris said are hand corrected but not every inch of a car will be perfect and if you're searching for that I suggest being careful. Expensive mistake to make.

Cuey made the original bars, they're ideal for some parts. In most cases a spot pad would be fine.

Gally, cues isn't making them now is he? Do you know who is? I've lost mine doh

Sorry I should've said, I've paint corrected around 20 clio sports now and always struggle with the areas I mentioned to get an absolutely perfect finish with no marks left in the paint and without spending too much time on them.

I do have a small backing pad and a couple of spot pads, however some of the area's are a pain in the arse to tape up and attempt to get a big bulky machine into them. I like the idea of the extension being put onto the machine itself, I did see it on a few threads I've read.

I generally use a rotary, however I do have access to a DA as well.

If you look at the gap between the rear wiper and the boot button surround its around 1-1.5" and is impossible to get a spot pad in and have the pad sitting flat, also I find it harder to get a perfect finish on the parts I've mentioned in my OP

I've never done any paint correcting by hand, I dont frequent DW as much as I should tbh so any pointers would be great as that may solve my problems

Simple answer is tape badges up or remove them and use a spot pad with the polisher think its 3.5" backing plate and 4" spot pads.

I personally just get where I can with the normal pads and use a light cut by hand in small awkward areas but then in the past wen I have done it I haven't exactly been trying to get a professional finish.

I know mate, I hate removing badges as I find it a pain to put them back on, really the main thing that bugs me is that small area between the rear wiper and boot button surround, I know I'm just being Anal but thats the name of the game with this sort of thing

Haha yeah I know exactly which bit you mean mate. Do it by hand though I mean you can only do what you can do :)

I really need to detail again but I can not be fucked for s**t now plus I need to stock up on polishes and everything again now. Let it get so dirty that you cant see the swirls ;) Really bugs me washing a car and the sun beams on it to expose swirly paintwork. I'm just glad it's cloudy most the time in the uk haha.

Either get/use the correct tools for such jobs or resort to doing by hand, simple as that surely.
Under door handles is always a tricky little area, I tend to do by hand personally

  172 Cup
I always take bits off if its not too difficult.
I've just removed the '172 Cup' badges on my doors so I can polish the frame up properly.
On the downside ill have to buy some more lol

There's one for sale at a garage near me for £5500 with 60k. Theres no mention of Dampers being serviced, or that the suspension is 'special'. Says 4 previous owners and has Service history with 3 stamps. Looks tidy enough when I passed it the other day
