You have to use VHT paint when doing engines - the same stuff you use for brake calipers. normal paint would discolour, crack or flake off if you didn't use VHT paint (that's Very High Temperature paint).

Hammerite is only rated to 150C, and most engines can run about 400C or hotter, so it's really worth paying a little more and getting the proper paint - otherwise you'll have to repaint it every other week!

Not sure if you'd be able to get body coloured VHT paint, but you can get VHT stuff from quite a few places. Try googling it, or even searching on eBay.

I've just bought some silver stuff for my Calipers (and some black "Renault" decals for them), so will look proper hot on my Black Clio. I'm toying of painting the Engine as well if I have enough paint left when I'm done with the calipers.

Try my other thread...

You don't need any special paint to paint the engine cover , and the lacquer will be fine .

Monkey beast 182 is referring to painting the " engine " not the engine cover .

all you need is normal paint, if you feel your engine cover after a long drive, it may be slightly warm at best, but by no means hot, so therefore is safe

Ah! I thought you meant the top of the engine that pokes through the cowling in the engine bay! I didn't actually think you meant the cowling! Yeah, as everyone says, normal paint would be fine for that!

Sorry for the confusion!
