Painting calipers

Hi, I am probably (if it stays dry) going to paint my front brake calipers at the weekend, i am going to go for silver as i think it will go well with the car. Will this stuff below be OK to do it with and is it easy enough to do it without taking the caliper off? thanks

You could maskin tape the disc as close to the calliper as possible to avoid touching the disc with the paint.

Id get a wire brush in about it aswell incase theres any build up off rust, itll make for a better finish aswell

Hammerite is absoloutely fine.

yeah its good stuff, thats what i used (but in black) and i didnt take the caliper off, just used a smaller brush. make sure you get a wire brush to the caliper before you use paint it to get all the crap off

A can of compressed air (or hoover) in about it aswell incase any of the dirt makes it between the brake pad and disc it may score it.

yeah it was fine and finished well, only did 3 coats, that was a few months ago and still looks good

i done one coat left for about an hour and a half then hairdryered it then painted the next coat then left it over night before putting the wheel back on. than done the other side the next night. i done silver on the calipers and black on my rear drums looks perfect imo!

half inch will do it nicley mate, wee tip, before you do paint it dip the brush brissles in a wee bit of turpentine this will make the brissles soak up more paint and make for a more even finish

Think it may need several hours to dry, id do it night before and give it a good chance to dry, the callipers get some heat when driven!

yeah it will be drying over night, the air will still get to it even though the wheel is on. obviously it isnt going to be driven until a few days after.

here you go very dirty though that is after 2 months need to get in there with some water and a brush to clean them.
and i used the hammered finish silver

and as for leaving the wheel off overnight. i would strongly reccomend it as on my rear drums it dripped and i now have a black blob of paint on the inside of my wheel. although i have managed to get most of it off with a brilo pad!

looks good, if i start in the morning/early afternoon, they should be half dry by night anyway, ill see how it goes

will hammerite with stand the heat produced through braking ?? becuase ive noticed that they do sell paint specialised for this sort of thing which as u could imagine is twice as expensive

I used hammerite smooth on mine, it's fine.

Done them all with it, no probs at all. It's all in the prep (wire brushing & a clean up of the caliper)

the caliper its self doesnt get hot enough i think! as said as long as you have a clean surface to paint on first and two coats it will be fine. everyone uses hammerite and it is ok!

hopefully it doesnt rain so i can get out and do them at the weekend, made my mind up and think i will go for silver
Hammerite will be fine as i used it before when painting calipers

painted my calipers silver today, rear drums black and fitted some clear side repeaters! really please with it, will post some pics tomorrow as ive only just finished cleaning it
