Parts needed for fatty induction kit

I've been considering one of these for a while as the standard airbox is a bit of an eye sore really and the fatty kit gets a lot of praise on here. I've also noticed that my standard airbox is missing the cold air feed pipe at the bottom that goes to behind the headlight, so I think it's time to ditch it tbh (plus I can find a replacement pipe anywhere, and I'm not buying a complete airbox lol). Anyway, I was hoping somebody could give me some links for the exact parts needed to install the fatty kit. I know there's a guide on here from fatty himself, however as it's an old thread the links appear to be dead. I'm specifically after the length & diameter of the 90 Degree pipe (I assume you use the existing jubilee clips). I have a K&N style cone filter I can use in place of a ramair one if needed. I've also noticed that some people use what appears to be a rubber strap over the battery to secure the filter. Apologies if this sounds lazy, however I don't want to order the wrong parts only to realise after I've removed my airbox that I don't have everything I need. Thanks in advance.

I used a “bent & cut to shape” metal bracket and another jubilee clip. I bolted it to the body as in pic....

Tried fitting the parts yesterday and had a bit of a nightmare. Discovered that I had the bigger type battery, so had to buy an 063 to make enough room for the air filter to fit. Then discovered that the ASH alloy pipe would not fit onto my 70mm Ramair filter no matter what I did. The swaged ends prevented it from sliding on and in the end I ended up squashing the filter ? I then had to bodge an old aftermarket filter I had lying around onto the existing intake as a temporary measure as I'd already removed the original airbox. I've spoken to Ramair who were very helpful and are sending me a new filter, but it's a mystery why the filter wouldn't fit onto the pipe I had as they were both 70mm ?

I presume when you ordered the ASH pipe you specified the correct diameter?

That’s strange mine was a doddle to fit, although I didn’t get a swaged end pipe so that probably helped (as well as the 063 battery in mine). All I did was slide the battery back as far as it goes, reclamp it then fit the 90 degree alloy pipe and ram air filter. I didn’t use a bracket to secure it as the Ramair sits snugly behind the passenger side headlight anyway

I have a feeling it was the size of the lip on the ASH pipe as it was quite prominent. Definitely 70mm however. I've ordered a pipe from Ramair instead so hopefully that will be easier to fit...

The non swaged pipe has no fitting issues as the filter comfortably fits over it. Once you tighten the jubilee clip the filter has a tight grip on it though.

Incidentally I ordered the one with swaged ends after reading the guide on here, but the non swaged version turned up. At first I was annoyed they sent me something incorrect, but tbh it's been absolutely fine and I've had zero issues with this setup. It's like it's designed for this car as it all fits so well.

Yeah, the non swaged pipe should definitely fit a lot easier. Don't really see the need for swaged ends with jubilee clips anyway.

Yeah I think there are two different sizes (both have 70mm necks) but there is a narrower version.

The one in the link (product number CC-296-70) is the larger of the two types that people buy

Took me a while to find the non swaged as most of the alloy pipes seem to have a lip.

The swaged pipe/Ramair filter worked ok on my Clio but, on my Escort, it was a struggle to get the filter onto the swaged pipe. I got it on but the rubber base of the filter split in no time. I ended up cutting the swage off on that one, as I was too cheap to buy another pipe lol

Swaged pipes are only really necessary on turbocharged cars in my experience.

Power, probably not although I don’t think it loses any either. Noise, definitely though. The induction roar is great, especially at high revs

Yes, but if you get the Ktec one you gain an extra 1000 HP apparently ?

Out of interest, what accounts for the difference in sound? Is it because the Ktec pipe goes all the way up to the throttle body? Visually the Ramair and Ktec filters themselves look almost identical.

I fitted my new filter yesterday and it really wasn't a struggle. Maybe Ash have changed the specification the swages? It did make me think what purpose the ridge had, so I cut it off ?. However, at the other end the swage sits neatly in the 'groove' of plastic bend from throttle body.

Finally got it fitted. The non swaged pipe that turned up was stainless steel so was too heavy. Ended up buying a Ramair alloy pipe, although I had to hacksaw the damn sages off the ends so pipe ended up slightly shorter than I would have liked. Looks OK though and sounds fruity ? Will probably replace with a ktec when funds allow, but overall I'm happy.

I found the same thing in the end - no bracket or cable ties required as fits nice and snug in front of battery.

I may get one of those silicone reducer/joiner connections to go on the throttle body end just to give pipe I bit more length, although to be fair I think it's probably OK as is so will see how I get on.

Sorry, meant where the alloy pipe joins the original plastic pipe from the throttle body.

Maybe look at a silicone bend instead though. See if anyone on here is selling one as new they arnt cheap cheap

So that would replace the upper plastic pipe and connect directly to the throttle body? I think samco do them, but as you said they certainly aren't cheap new ?

Out of interest, what do you do with the existing breather pipe when you fit a silicone elbow?

I've also noticed that the car seems to drive a lot better with the induction kit fitted. I know a lot of people say it's placebo and just noise, but I swear it feels a bit quicker. Certainly revs a lot more freely than before at the very least without any flat spots ?
