PDI and Valeting a new car

  Clio 197

Gday chaps,

Quick query:

I asked my dealer not to touch my 182, as I didnt want his valeters scratching my new paintwork (Im a virgo)...

Anyway, Im wondering if that was a smart move, or not.

Im worried that the car might have chips/scratches that I cant spot when its covered in transport muck....

Whats are your experiences ?

I think id let them do it, seeing as you have an opertunity to go round the car with a fine tooth comb before you accept it and take delivery.

let them do it as getting the Wax that covers a new car off is a real pain in the ar$e unless you have the right gear.

and as jon says there wont be any opportunity for something too be missed.

i wouldnt let them. I gave my v6 a polish yesterday and found swirl marks on the door and a bloody dent in the back bumper. Weather these were made by the valeter i couldnt say, dunno what polish they used but it was crap i had white bits all over the car.

irrc the pdi valets rarely include a polish all they do is remove the protective plastics and waxes and hoover it out.

the swirl marks are probably from when the polished out a small scratch in the factory

Ok, then.... Im let-em do it, but Im buying them a new sponge to do it with!!
The valeter might keep the new sponge for his own car and use his old one that might have been dropped in the gravel a few times, for your car! ;) I dont think garage employees like to be told by customers that they arent trusted to clean their cars properly!

I dont think many dealers bother too much with a thorough PDI ~ they wait until the customer finds a problem and then it gets booked in for remedial work ~ that has been our experience on several occasions, especially when the new registration comes out and they have more cars being sold and collected than usual.

Not done by the dealers, its done at the import centre I think, all the dealer does is tyre pressures, check wheels are tight, tune radio , fit aireal and any other bits.

At my place you get 0.20hr for a PDI which is just as above.

Let them do it, if you accept the car and its got some damage hidden by dirt you aint gona be a happy bunny!

I asked my dealer not to wash mine at service time they did it anyway and scratched it, tbh on a brand new car Id want to pick it up sparkling as if itd never been on the road!

You could always ask to go and clean it yourself on their premises, assuming they will let you, and you have the time.
That way you will see any damage and point it out there and then.
BTW take a wash mit, not a sponge.
