Time another update 😄

The battery in my Clio was not in the best condition, if i left the car stopped for two weeks or so without being connected to the trickle charger it would go flat. So, using man maths i decided to buy a proper lightweight battery with a cut off switch.

Weight? 2.0 KG in my scales :)

Stock battery and air box removed.

Brackets removed

Stock battery tray

So after thinking about it, i decided to fabricate a tray using existing holes. My goal was not to make any single hole on the car and left everything to be 100% reversible.

Started making a cardboard template

Then on stainless

First test fit

Some trimming

1670576845961.png

Installed some rive nuts and fabricated some spacers to keep the battery tray leveled on the pre-existing holes. One spacer has 22mm and the other 20mm.

After a coat of high temperature paint and another test fit

Getting there

And with the final 2 vertical holders

Weighting kg, and with these fixations i can assure the battery won´t move.

Since one of my grounds was connected to some brackets, i had to use another hole. Fortunately Renault leaves a lot of holes in the engine bay :ROFLMAO:

And almost finished

And job finished, this is how it looks.

Very happy with the result. The battery has an amazing cranking power and starts straight away.

Total weight saving? 10.1 Kg. My new brackets and cut off switch are sightly heavier than the stock set up :)

Thanks for reading :)

So, decided to remove the dead weight sitting at the engine mount passenger side

The b*****d sitting there hidden

And out

1671894313990.png

How much weight?

1671894341637.png

1.8 Kg

Also removed the engine cover , another 0.8 kg .

So at this point, with the battery and the items above I have lost 12.7 kg after the suspension towers. I would like to say it does not many any difference, but i am sure it makes.

So, let´s do a update on this.

Over the end of the year i bought this :

Some ATS DTC 15x7, i was looking for one of these wheels for ages, even for my previous mx-5, finally found a set and went to grab the wheels. No price discussion, nothing, i just wanted them.

Sent them to be refurbished

1675859432344.png

How much do they weight?

1675859712605.png

6.8 kg

Good pictures not really :) But at least you can see it with proper light.

The center caps tend to come off on the rear wheels. Noticed that the clips that hold it on the wheel touch the hub nut cap. Need to trim down the center caps slighty.

And yes, needs some lowering. But still on the fence between Bilstein / Cup shocks with springs.

Time for a update, and can assure you that things will get interesting 😁

Last week went for a blast with a friend that has a mint 182.

Great fun and the Clio with the small mods (182 Manifold & Cat , Ported Inlet & panel filter) is a good match for grunt with the 182, even with the stock long gearbox.

And now to to show you something that arrived from France :)

New, old stock. I had to give them a quick silver coat because the original finish was a little bit deteriorated.

Now i need to buy some springs from MarkFish . Anyone has a set laying around by any chance :) ?

Another update :)

Since the gearbox parts for the JC5 are becoming harder and harder to come by, i decided to refurbish my JC5 053 to make it as new as I can. Glad i made that decision, despite the synchros being in good condition, the bearings had a lot of wear/play and a lot of swarf along the gearbox and the oil was milky. Not ideal.

Some pictures of all the work.

Sorry for the pictures not being in the correct order :)
Now it´s all done, just need to decide wich oil tu use. On my 089 i use the Renault ELF Gearbox Oil. On this im tempted to use Redline.

What´s your opinion?
Lovely job 👏

I used Redline on mine when it had a Quaife put it in, otherwise I’d just use what Renault recommended.

And time for a big update.

Over the last months i have been collecting everything for the timing belt service, and another parts to change at the same time. So next week the car will go to my mechanic to have everything installed. Since we all love pictures, let´s go.

Pure Motorsport cambelt cover (Hope it´s for the MK2, since that on the box does not mention if it is for the MK2 or MK3)
