PF97s = Face ripping stopping power!

Oh my gosh! Not long been out after fitting new brembo HC discs and the PF97s out of the Burpspeed race car.

So not new pads, but they were in very good condition, especially considering they've done a race season and a few track and test days!

Not long been back after bedding in and trying them out.

I don't think I could stop faster if I hit a tree! Coming from HCs and Mintex 1144s, these are on a different scale! I was getting fed up of the 1144s giving up the ghost after a few laps on track, then coming in to cool them down - then going back out again.

Jay and Tony have told me (and I've seen it at every race!) that these are still as good after a 40min race!!

I did s**t bricks after my first 'big stop'! s**t loads of sparks!! I thought I'd fit them wrong, and something was grinding on the discs or worse. I'm sure my alloys and paintwork won't appreciate the sparks though :( Oh well....small price to pay for epic performance.

I'm doing my first track day of the year at Llandow on Wednesday, I'll let you know how they get on if anyone is thinking about these pads.

Dairylea would seem great after Mintex. The PF's are meant to be great, but not on a daily.

I ran 97's on a daily car (not a clio) and they were fine, although given my laziness with washing cars the wheels are now in dire need of a refurb to get shiney (if thats your kind thing).

I loved how they were better than OEM when cold, and then with a tiny bit of heat in them you would get mental braking power from them!!! Only thing to be wary of is the fact they are carbon metallics the heat is dumped straight to the caliper and the brake fluid NEEDS to be upto the job rather than just being decent for organic pads that retain their heat better

A little off topic but, where is the best place to buy these pads?

By far the best pads you can get, when you 'slam on' the brakes its like somebody throwing a 1000kg anchor out the back of the car!

Oh, and say bye bye to the paint on your wheels and doors... We had to use wonder wheels / auto smart alloy wheel cleaner to get it off the doors :dead:

After 2 track days at Donnington the discs on my 172 where mullered ha!

They are spot on for track or race, but I found them a bit too much for the road.

Plus, you get randoms coming up to you when you've stopped saying this...

I had these on mine and thought they were superb (although i was changing from Greenstuff pads)

I bought some DS2500's to try this time purely because of the price of the PF's

I'll probably switch back to PF's once the car's back up and running though, as i managed to get hold of 2 brand new sets stupidly cheap on eBay

We just found they didn't suit our driving style, although being very good they seemed to be either on or off, might have been better run on slicks, but alas we cannot run those.

Glad you like them Dan.

What u running now Tony?

Giving Yellow stuffs a go.We don't actually brake that much and the car is light,so we will see how we get on.

Yeh night time driving is comical now lol!

Havent had any complaints after my commute today, as in normal road use.

Bit noisy every now and then, but that doesnt bother me in the slightest.

I see what you mean about on or off Tony. The pedal feel on mine is quite soft initially, but then your face comes off!

I'll be really intrigued to see how the fair on track, I am so looking forward to using brakes that can withstand the punishment tbh! That was the only thing that let my car down on track last year - brake fade :(

Also Tony, did you fit brand new discs at the start of the season?

If so, what were they like after the years racing?

I'm a bit worried that I'll be changing discs every 6 months lol! Glad they're only £50 odd!!

Yes they were new,and still had some left on them, but don't forget the car only did about 18.1/2 hrs running.

They certainly make for some fun as said previously...

FLOL! I gotta get someone to drive my car so I can get some snaps like that!

I would just love to hear what people in nearby cars think!

Its sort of stopped doing it now, lol - to be honest I think they were doing it so bad because the discs were being used with DS2500's beforehand, and some pad material was still on the disc. It sort of got less and less over time :dapprove:

And how has your paintwork faired?

Tony - the race car doesnt look bad at all, from what people say about the paint with these pads, you would have no car left!

Non really car,but it was always washed after a race anyway.Had to scrub the wheels hard a few times though.Good old Wonder Wheels.

Sparks... WTF!!!!!!!!

When they were on my VX I NEVER had sparks! That was with gyppo £20 a disc plain vectra discs and the PF97's..... Is it something with the discs the clio has that makes them spark like feck, or is it grooved discs just breaking up to cause them? I dont believe in grooves or drillings unless the holes are cast in or the discs are carbon/ceramics lol

what would be the best way to bed these in? New pads and discs i mean. 8000 miles or so like the Godspeed EBC blues lol.

I'd imagine similar to the CL brake pads...

10x 30mph to idle/rolling,
10x 70mph to 20mph,
100-120mph to 40mph.

Obviously dont do that all without a few breaks in between, just drive for a minute or so without using the brakes so they cool down a little and then continue on with the bedding in.

Surely these would be lock up city on a Cup, no ABS! In the wet of course. I've been looking at brakes recently, I'm more a braking and handling man than all out power so this is an interesting read. Too much for the road though?

  Lionel Richie
^no, you won't lock up on the road

they're not a road pad, way too extreme for that, brake pedal is like concrete though :D

Not long been back from Llandow trackday. Pissed it down most of the day, but it did get almost dry for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

REALLY happy with them. Never faded once, although I wasnt pushing really hard due to the conditions. I got some vids, so will get them up soon.

I find them excellent on track but on the road, the initial bite, compared to how they brake once up to temperature makes them a bit awkward to modulate.

Like when you're braking from say 80mph, you get pressure on the pedal for the amount of braking you need, then BAM!, they get a bit of heat in and suddenly bite/brake much much harder.

On track that's not an issue as you'll always have them warm enough to avoid it.
