Ph1 172 7.0 secs 0-60 & Ph2 6.7?

So they either;

Don't weigh the same?
Have different engines?
Are set up slightly differently?

Going with parkers.com, or are they wrong?

  B/G 182 + PH1 Track
Put it this way renaultsport was never going to release a PH2 and give a 0-60 that was slower than the PH1 were they....

There is so little difference its not even worth talking about.

Ph1s are better though...

  53 Clio's & counting
The ph1 is slightly ligher, the Ph2 has different gear ratio's to make up for the extra weight.

On the road there is naff all in it, in fact the ph1 is supposed to be a bit quicker, but again we are talking very little

indeed.

That .3 of a second makes all the difference in a traffic light race, the ph1 driver will need to drop a cog to pull level and then pull a foot ahead.:dead:

I always thought ph1's were slightly quicker :quiet:

Thats the general opinion, iv had a few blips with ph2's and pulled on them, but then again id say a healthy ph2 could do the same to me, i honestly believe there is so much variance between these engines (having a 'good' or 'bad' one) that no model is faster than another

Do what i had a Mk1 172 with a clio Mk2 172 cup gear box in it :)

I think this is what i have got, seems rapid and its def quicker than my RX8 was to 60

Im not getting the 65ish that people report in second gear on a ph1 which is what makes me think i have a cup box in mine, im getting about 58 or so which would seem about right but it pulls very well

Yes, a ph1 box will pull an indicated 65ish in 2nd, so unless your speedo is out for any reason and your still on std sized wheels id say uou have a different box

  172 Ph1, 1972 Mini 1
Yeah that was what i was thinking, the speedo is out which is what first allerted me to a potential different box, it is actually indicating 65 on the speedo but it is only doing 56-58 recorded on sat nav and verified by firend i have had follow me in other cars i was that concerned.

Now i know speedos are always out but that is actually beyond the 10% they are allowed to be out by. Cruising on the motorway 80mph on sat nav indicates about 92 on the speedo.

I had my first Mk 1 172 in 2004 with std Mk1 gear box and got my second 172 Mk 1 in 2009 ( off Budgie ) with the cup gear box in it and have to say it feels quicker than my first one and it was on a R/R @ 161 BHP in Std form :approve:

iv driven many different ph1's which all have shown slightly different on the speedo, mine will show just under 70 at the limiter with a std rev limit

You sure your allowing the engine to get to full temp and therefore full revs? I'm sure my Ph2 hits 65 on the clock in 2nd.

  Lots of Alfas
Wherever you read the stats its different. For the record im sure mine tops out at 65 in 2nd gear. Thats with it fully warmed up on standard wheels.

  172 Ph1, 1972 Mini 1
Yeah its up to full temp, like i say it hits 65 on the speedo in 2nd but its only doing 58 which is too far out for the normal tolerances of the speedo which makes me think i have a different box.

My worst fears are i might have a normal clio box, not sure if this is possible but it does worry me. All i have to go on is a receipt that says 172 Renaultsport gearbox on it but i cant see why it would be so wrong on the speedo.

  dCi 65 + C2 (<Sold)
It's possible. What's your cars SH like? Some dealers have a habit of stripping cars of their good parts and sticking sh*t in instead. I'd get it checked.

The service history is immaculate, the problem is the box broke 40 miles after i picked it up on my way home so it was then up to them to fix it. They showed me a receipt for a reconditioned box from a renault specialist (cant remember the name tho but did have renault logos all over the letterhead etc) which said reconditioned 172 renaultsport gearbox but thats all i have to go off.

Like you say can never trust some people, it could just be a standard box. Im thnking of getting the car to the local renault stealer and getting them to do a full appraisal of the car.

The SH is immaculate tho, its done 78K had belts done twice and was a company car in london for most of its life so anything that was even advised was done without hesitation. Thats what convinced me to buy it to be fair.

Its down to the gearing. If both cars had identical boxes the Ph1 would be quicker.
I've never seen the ph2 172 quoted at 6.7, iirc that's the 182.
In reality there's nothing in it. If my box ever goes I'll try and get a cup box though.

Does a Phase 1 have a cable driven speedometer?

Its totally on the car imo.

  Golf GTD Mk7
where is 6.7 coming from? It was 7.1 for the 182. Pretty sure the cup and trophy were 6.9.

Alic01 check the code for the box they put in. Sounds like it's the wrong ratio based on the speed you get up to. Strange that renault would put the wrong part into a car.lol

  Iceberg 172
I think parkers quote 6.7 for a ph2 172 and 6.4 for the cup.

Whatever it is I don't care. Mine seems to go ok!

Unless you were side by side racing another one and measuring the gains in inches, then they're all the same.

Apart from the 172Cup which is super rapid.

Does anyone know what the codes should be and where to find them on the box?? I havent really investigated under the bonnet to be fair yet.

End of the day, whoever cares least about the car, dumps the clutch and rushes the gears through as quick as possible will most likely be quickest.

Unless it's a cup. No chance then.

Yup. 0-60 is for pub talk and people who wonder why they're on their fourth gearbox.
