Ph1 reading ecu/obd2 with can clip issue

Just been trying to get my ph1 172 finished after a major overhaul, I've bought can clip v183 full chip version and cut along story short I can connect to all modules other than my ecu.
ABS, airbag etc modules are fully accessible and i can clear any faults on all of them, but for some reason I cannot on my ecu, It comes up with a "connection" error. Seems to do the same with rs tuner too. Are the ph1 ecu's locked at all? What else could I check?

icarsoft i907 renault diagnostic reader is what u need, it will read the ecu. mine is clio 172 2000 w reg
