Photoshop Amateur. Ideas needed.

I took a couple of pics whilst out for a drive roaming the countryside earlier. I've seen peoples photoshop pics and i wouldn't mind having a crack at doing some myself.

I've seen some where the backgrounds are say for example black and white and just the car colour stands out and also some where everything looks blood red and firey in the background. How do you go about adding these type of effects?

Any ideas of what i could do to this photo as an example?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
