Picked up PS3 lastnite

Picked up my PS3 lastnight, was a bit pissed off as i was shopping in big 24r Tesco, and they were advertising selling them at 12:01, and put an announcement over the speaker saying you can buy one after 12 etc.. there was no queues or nothing, unluckily for me i put a £50 deposit down at game yesterday am, so proceed to game after the shoping around midnight, got there ar 12:05 and there was a queue of about 20 peoples, and it took 1hr for the shop to finally get around to giving me my PS3 !!1 the other people were trading in there old junk, making me wait !!! and to top it off some shop assistant from currys 2 doors away walks over to the queue and says they have lots forsale if anyone wants one the spotty git. anyways got it, downloaded the demo's, played it, going to sleep now

As you may, or may not, have seen Sony have shipped a hell of a lot of PS3's into Europe so the launch has less drama than other launches (e.g. Wii).

Sony have said initial sales are greater than that of the PS2 when that was launched so I don't think there's a problem with demand.

Either way I hope Sony deliver some pownage to Microsoft, Gates is never going to go out of business, so it just means that 360 gear will get cheaper, and better. If not then Sony are out, MS win, and they can rip us all off which wouldn't be fun.

Haven't alot of people cancelled there original order of the PS3 and are getting them from USA or Japan, because the UK models will not play the old PS2 games where as the USA and Japan one's do.

TBH, the compatibility problem doesn't bother me. I didn't buy a next-gen console to play old games on. I've flogged most of my games and have my PS2 to use if they don't work on the PS3. Not worth losing sleep over I don't think and probably not as big a deal as the media make out.

I don't think sony has the upperhand as they did with the ps2/xbox situation before.

Both consoles will sell well, and it will go down to what games you prefer. I love forza and halo so when i get round to it I will buy a 360!

nice one yeah they are well heavy, i can't get my hdmi to dvi lead to work though, so stuck with the old rgb, did u know they play data dvd's with mpeg movies on i been trying, they don't play divx yet

it feels a bit cack without the vibration in the controller. and the downloads seemed really slow lastnight, i downloaded the 5 demos, ridge racer (crap) Gran Tursimo (boring 1 track), that crummy fighting demo, and something else, it took like 3hrs to download 2gb, pants.

That's the reality of owning one at the moment though.

The pad is horrid. No rumble and far too light, plus the triggers are nasty. I've been saying that for months though.

nah, the demos were cack, and only like 7 in total..... ridge racer completely sucked, the car just drives sideways all the time, and u can't control it, so glad i didn't buy it, i got the resistance and moto thing games. gonna try hooking my psp up to the usb port see if i can use it as a controller or something.

DS Lite rules. Although I got a 360 at christmas - play the DS more though, more so because u can just pick it up and put it down. I wanted a PS3 but couldn't justify spending 500 notes for a console. Although I'll be interested to see what Resident Evil 5 looks like on the PS3, just to compare it to the 360 version.

You're a marketing mans wet dream.

The 360 is gaining more and more support from developers, and is more often the lead platfrom being developed on. In the past PS2 always came first.

The fact it's huge beast puts me off even more. It's massive. I like the touch sensitive buttons though.

iirc no one moaned the day of the 360 launch....and I don't have a psp so not bothered about a "rear view"

The size really puts me off too, the 360 only just fits on my shelf so I've got no chance of getting a PS3 on there

ive been down the local game station yesterday to get a new xb360 game and they had a hoogue! sony bravia tv playing the ps3, i was watching ridge racer and it looked boring! the graffics were good but nothing i would sell my xb360 for cos i have to get it! i was speaking to my mate who worked in there and he was unpacking all the new ps3's and he asked if i was getting one,i said yeah if they were £200 cheaper,i asked if he had many pre orders and he just said na not really, i think the fact of the matter is no one wants to pay that much for a console no matter if it can play new blu ray dvd's and stuff.

the lad who said this was a proper computer nerd and im sure if he had any faith in the ps3 or knew something i didnt, he didnt let me know.

in about a years time maybe i might give the ps3 a second look for metal gear and gran turismo, but for now i wouldnt trade gears of war or rainbowsix in for the games that are out for that at the moment, its the same as the wii, i was going to trade in my xb360 for one of them cos they seem'd cool at the time but im so glad i didnt cos i know there is no games out for it now that i would playing still since xmas.

If it takes off! Remember the Sony mini disc? the whole beta max vs vhs all over again!

Plus with utter crap films available on Blu Ray at the moment such as Click It's going to be a while before it becomes "standard household equipment"

Every major US film company except one is backing Blu-ray over HD-DVD and it is outselling HD-DVD in the shops significantly. The PS2 lasted us 7 years so I think with PS3 has a lot to come and will be the significant leader in the long run.

ok so you took me a bit too literally...the main point was that it's far too expensive right now to become your standard home equipment and the lack of DVD's available doesn't help...
