No before's because I'm a rubbish detailer-writer-upper and didn't even think about it....

But I'm pleased with the results for my first time, not sure I was applying the right pressure all the time and I found the pad deceiving as to whether it was spinning or not! There's still light swirling in the roof and bonnet which I'll tackle when I have more time and patience, but it could become really rather addictive.

Cheers chaps, I'd love to get the car looking nice and get some 'proper' shots done... might have to speak nicely to Chris (ukaskew)!

Vein - gladly mate; I intend to maybe offer my novice services out over the coming months prior to show season! I won't be perfect, but I also won't be expensive!

Yeah the last shot works for some reason - I was literally walking all my stuff back home and stopped, put the camera on the floor, slowed down the shutter speed and clicked. Lol.

Looks great!

Seems like you have an auto setting on your camera to compensate for a light condition, as they're all a blue hue to me!

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Yeah there is a blue hue because of the white balance setting... didn't realise until I got them on the PC screen!

Very nice work! :)

Little tip... draw a line on the backing plate so that you can see if it is spinning or not - 1 rev per second is normally about right :)

^ Cheers mate, good tip! For some reason I was under the impression that the pad would be spinning at crazy rpm, hence the effectiveness of it over hand polishing.

I have since learnt that I am wrong, lol.

It does on speed 6, but you shouldn't ever need to use that (but it is useful for drying wet pads!)

Which products and pads did you use? It does look flawless tbh.

  BMW E46 330i Touring
I used Megs 83 and 80 with Lake Country Orange and Black - it's certainly not flawless in the right light, but a big improvement nonetheless!

I spread the polish on '2' and then worked it in slowly on '5' - moving the machine about 1cm a second. That sound right? I wonder if I wasn't using enough polish though as it didn't seem to take very long at all before I couldn't see any remains, and yet there are still swirls evident.

Lol, in the media section that would just be wrong...

Aye, the dent's been there since I got her. There's various annoying scrapes on both bumpers which I'll be sorting in due course, but she's not in bad nick for 80k.

  Megane R26
Sounds about right to me, but I'm not a massive Megs fan - much prefer the speed at which the Menz polishes correct, but the longer work time of the Megs is better for beginners in a way.

These new one step polishes are the way forward, I always found it a chore correcting, then refining, but things like Megs #205 and Menz 203S finish down as good as PO85RD and #80, so happy times :)

Anyway, enough waffle, nice work :)

Cheers russ, I might have a look into the menz polishes as they seem to be rated better and easier to use. I'm pretty confident I didn't spend long enough properly breaking down the polishes...

Justin - Yeah I did mate - had a panic when the wrong backing plate turned up, but all sorted!

I may pop along to the meet today... 12pm at Exeter Services, right?
