PMS Gear Linkage rattle

Had my Gear Linkage Kit mounted today. Shifting gears works great but the thing rattles like hell when driving. Pushing the gear knob slightly forwards (push pressure on it) makes it dissapear. Do i have to accept this sound because of the lack of teflon parts or is the something wrong with it?

They all (including mine) do it but as Nick said above they're not refined specifically for road use being a motorsport part.

I think that as mine is only ever going to be used when I'm wearing a crash helmet, I'll take my chances and hopefully not let it bother me :)

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
do they have a weight on a rod somewhere? A lot of after market short shift kits etc (on other cars) have them and they're just slid onto the shaft rather than being made part of the shaft. if there's sommething like that, it should be easy to stop

Mine doesn't rattle but it bangs against the floor when selecting reverse.

Its a small price to pay for its awesomeness.

Its the reverse select sleeve that rattles against the gearstick. Danny's suggestion is good, if you jubilee clip on a weight at different points on the connecting rod until your rattle reduces.

The ph1's have a weight built into the front part of the standard sliding joint.

Yes. Even though they are a nightmare to fit as well! Lol

Guess there is a lot of adjustments to be made once fitted. How long did it take to fit?

Do you think with the extra leverage you will be able to achieve on the stick, it would cause any gearbox issues?

Not a lot of adjustment at all, just the selector rod on the arm that connects to the block. Only moves forwards and backwards, much to PMS's instructions... Personally I think it depends on what exhaust system you have with regards to how easy it is to fit where the downpipe/decat is under the car. Mine also hit the dogbone mount as well, until I bent the selector rod so it cleared.

Can't comment on the gearbox longevity tbh.

Allright so mine's not the only Shifter that rattles!

Can someone please explane what this means:

"if you jubilee clip on a weight at different points on the connecting rod"

What is the suggestion to do to reduce the rattle? How and where exectly do i have to put these jubilee clips?

Thanxs in advance!

Experiment with placement.

A weight attached to the rod should reduce the harmonic vibrations that's transferred from the engine.

If pushing it forward slightly makes it disspapear, then just put a light spring on the mechanism under the car (and hence out of sight) to do the same thing?

It's crazy but it works (almost 90%). Doesn't this wear out the gears?

Depends if you are just taking up the slack in the linkage or if you are actually putting any significant enough torque into the linkage on the box itself to be trying to engage a gear.

Do you mean the spring from the lower spec'd Clio's that had the pull over spring located at the base of the gear lever around the linkage rod underneath the car ?

The only thing is Chip is that it's been mentioned about pushing the lever forward and the noise/rattle disappears , the spring I am on about only pulls the linkage from side to side - so not sure if it would work

The noise disappears if you just hold the the reverse lock sleeve, it doesn't need to be held forward or back, left or right, you only need to reduce the vibrations coming from the engine which a weight on the selector rod will do.

Wether it totally gets rid of it I'm doubtful but I bet you can shift the point where it sits and buzzes which was at cruising speed around 75mph for me and a few times going up and down the revs.
