PMS shifter?

  monaco 172
Hey guys. I'm toying with the idea of buying a civic fn2 as I'm getting a bit bored with the clio, but I think the only thing really letting it down is the gearbox/shifter.

I've replaced the bushes with yanoo brass ones and also replaced the white bits at the selector end with genuine Renault bits but after driving my mates fn2 the shift still feels like a 1980s escort.

I'm pretty sure my gearbox is ok as there's no crunches even at high rpm and no whines, but the gear change is just so sloppy.

Is a PMS shifter likely to change my mind and make me want to keep the car?

Vibrations don't bother me, it'll probably be drowned out by my ktec stealth anyway lol

Tbh standard they are sloppy as anything. Love my pms and makes a massive dofference. Even on the long journeys the rattle hasn’t really bothered me just turn the music up a bit. See if someone near you has one that you can have a feel of

Pms shifter is great, transforms the gearchange & drive. Good solid feel and positive shift into gear.

The pms linkage with bearings is as good as it gets for the jc5, hardly any play compared to the crap oem bushes. Add a set of vibratechnic engine/gearbox mounts and poly dogbone whilst doing it, once the engine is solid its bang on.

I've been considering getting one for a few years now. But have always ended up selling my Clio and moving on. I'm on clio No. 5 now as i keep seeing sense and coming back. So currently running a modified scenic shifter and the linkage is really bad, so think this is going to be my next big purchase for the car.

My question is how much difference does the engine and gearbox mounts make to the overall shifter vibration?

I'm running a purple Powerflex bogbone, black Powerflex engine insert with new febi mount, and a standard febi gearbox mount. This seems like a good compromise for road usage, as it adds a lot of stiffness to the engine, and barely anymore more vibration. I've used the Evol dogbone with softer bushes on a previous car and had to remove it after a few weeks. I'm hoping that because there isn't much extra vibration in my current setup, that the PMS shifter may not vibrate as much as a trackcar setup running proper solid mounts.

I would not expect any vibrations off the shifter, its more a noise issue as it can rattle at certain rpm's. Mine has settled in after a couple of thousand miles and no noise at all now. Fit the dampener on a road car.

I would highly recommend a yahnoo stiff shift. I replaced my sloppy megane shifter with a PH1 that had the yahnoo kit fitted. Difference was night and day imo! I think this is a real good upgrade, especially for a road car. No rattles like people go on about with the PMS shifter.

I plan to fit the guts from the PH1 shifter into the megane one as I prefer the height of the stick. I will eventually get the new PMS shifter. If nothing else the new carbon shaft is a work of art!

Back on topic though, I think there must be another issue if the yahnoo kit did not make much difference. Did you just fit the brass lower bushes? Mine has all the bits replaced where the gear stick goes into the lower section. I didn't bother with the brass bushes as were too stiff and there was nothing wrong with the origional lower bushes. Hope that makes sense.

This bit.....
