poor 182 brakes

my brake shave been really poor, fitted some ds2500's and theyr ebetter.. but i just got 1.2 courtesy car and i honestly think this thing brakes better than my 182

i did an hour on a track - could i have cooked the fluid in it?? think im going to have to bleed all the fluid out and replace it with something. any suggestions - for general road/fast road use.

As always recommended get some Silkolene pro race 2000 flui (best value for money) and bleed the whole system.

Std fluid is crap and i boiled mine on the road..! Brakes will be great after you have done it but make sure you do it properly.

mine were awful also, GDi bleed them and gave them a tidy up. helped a great deal. i have done 19k so GDI rckon i will need to change my discs and pads in a few K's. Maybe similiar thing?

Andy said i had boiled mine due to their being a lot of air.

a thing to remember to is a 1.2 has 260mm vented front disks where a 182 has 280mm (i think) vented front disks so not a great deal bigger considering all the extra weight over the front wheels and you do hear of people saying the brakes on there 1.2 were better.

when i first got my 182 i tapped them and was through the windscreen, now i have to stamp on them quite a bit..
this 1.2 ya nip them a bit and ya picking ya teeth back out the steering wheel.

  182>FRS>VX220 now 350Z
the 1.2 is a normal car with over servo'd brakes....I nearly went through the windscreen when i drove my mates lol.

Get them bled up properly and they will feel much better :D

wheres cheapest place to get it from?

what dot rating is the 182?

Dot 4 is what you want.
Demon Tweeks are probably the cheapest.
I like the none RS brakes in many ways more than the RS Clios brakes.
Easy to bleed the system go to halfords and buy one of there azy bleed one make kits £20 or so. Then get the fluid, Halfords sell the super dot 4 stuff whcih I've found fine for use.
Then stick the screw on top on the brake reservoir then check you've got a good seal by attaching a tyre to the relevent pipe. If air comes out then tigthen the seal a bit more (I use a par of mole grip like thingies)( make sure the rubber seal is in the screw top though).
Then remove the pipe from the tyre. Fill the bottle with fluid and screw on tight. and reatach the tyre to the suytem.
To bleed a claiper remove the dust cap and with an 8mm spanner undo the bleed nipple and with a pipe over the end of the bleed nipple going to a clear bottle (so you can see the fluid coming out) loosen the bleed nipple. Leave it open for a bit you might find nothing seems to come out for some time (20~30 seconds) if your brakes have loads of air in them. Then leave the nippple lose and let a bit of fluid come out you'll often find that after a few seconds of smoothtly running fluid coming out there will be another air pocket.
Once your sure the caliper has no air in it tigten the nipple up and put the dust cap back on.
Jsut remember brake fluid iosn't nice stuff wear gloves wash your hands and wash the wheels and anywhere the fluid can have got to. If you have ABS you need to bleed the brakes in this sequence.
Back passenger side
Back drivers side
Front passengers side
Front drivers side.
The official Renault manual says to do them in the order
Left front
Right front
Left rear
Right rear
I've done them in both order and so long as you bleed the calpiers right there shouldn't be a problem with either method.

the easy bleed kit ive got is a clear pipe with a non return valve inside a bottle..
got that from halfords.
then you pump ya brakes untill no air bubbles appear in the pipe and close the nipple back up.

Thats the two person kit the easy bleed is a one person kit.
The Eazi bleed one person is much better and if you've got £280 quid spare the one motorfactories sell which uses battery power is even better but its expensive.

its a one person kit.. has a non return valve in it so you can let go of the pedal, go round. check no air bubbles, tighten nipple up then remove the pipe.

can you bleed 182 brakes without having to remove the wheels??
Yes.
You need a friend to work those one person valves plus need to keep toping up the rerservior and they crack down the side of the rubber tube that why I got a pressure bleeder.

Even if you have a friend (my weekness) better get them to make you a cup of tea than get them pushing a brake pedal up and down in time IMO.

thanks for the opinion, might go get one of the pressure bleeder ones then

need some of that silkolen pro race fluid too.. have to try demon theives if no one else does it..

  GDI Demo 182, Rsi Spider
I have tried every bleed system available.... settled on a £450 snap on one... its the best one todate, as its the only one I have found to efficiently expell all the air in the system even through ABS pumps etc which are usually a pain.

Edde Better fluid than standard dot 4 is needed if you use the brakes hard. I have boiled the std fluid and Castrol response DOT 4. I have Silkolene PR 2000 and even after a 20 seperate laps of the Ring and comming to a standing stop the fluid is tip top.. Its not expensive and i feel well worth the 10 pounds extra..

i bought one of them pressurised easy bleed systems.. hope its ok for what i need.. gunsons one from halfords.

and 2 bottles of silkolene pro race 2000 at 14.95 pper 500ml bottle..

You know me I'm cheap and the dci doesn't need any more the Williams has better calipers so overheat isn't an issue.
Your right though 172/182 if you drive very hard (like you can) would need better fluid.
Still I'm lazy I always forget and end up buying from Halfords.
