Possible to make a normal Clio 182 handle like a Trophy?

  Nissan 350Z
Short of putting the proper Trophy items on, is it possible using normal springs + dampers or coilovers to give as good handling as a Trophy to a normal 182?

I am happy with the way the 182 handles, but in the future sometime, I think I would like to improve its handling (and perhaps appearance) but retain the stealth factor of my FF 182!

some coilovers apparently give a better ride than standard, something you wont get from replacement shock absorbers and springs alone.

^^^ yer people say the H&Rs give a better ride ...but they dont. lol
Some Eibach shocks and matched springs will improve cornering but i have no experience so not sure. The ride should be ok but again not sure.

When i drove Loony's 182 on H&Rs the ride seemed much better than standard cup set up to me. A lot more composed and less chrashy, the damping on them things is superb.

Just looked at the price - £763!

Expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for - i suppose if you want real gains thats how much you must spend.

From the short drive I had well worth the £££ I really want some, and I dont really do modifing cars!

haha, you'll end up giving in soon ;)

I've found on both my 172 and now my 182 that the H&R's ride better than the OE kit IMO.

its too much money for me too, maybe if i hadnt spent about £2k on getting back into mountain biking I'd have a nicer car lol

I'll have to arrange a spin with Stu (forum name Strike) we keep saying we'll have a go in each others cars to compare his trophy against mine but it hasnt happened yet.

Put it this way IIRC the front dampers cost EACH pretty much what you would pay for a full set of decent quality coilovers. Then there's the fact they're pretty much impossible to get hold of.

trophy has wider track too and lighter wheels than a 172FF or 182 and costs no more really than a new 182, hence its a better package if you want a better driving experience straight from the box (without mods)

I was being sarcastic, its one of those questions that will no doubt lead to heated debate and give no real answer to the question. I've not driven a Trophy so i personally cant give an opinion on the merits/downsides of one Vs a 182 with coilovers. Then there's the issue of which coilovers as the way the car handles/drives varies greatly between manufacturers.

The last I heard even Trophy owners could'nt get replacement Trophy kit!

My brother and i had this discussion the other night about the Trophy suspension, what happens if you crash your Trophy and knacker say the front suspension, will the insurance company class it as a write off due to the cost of replacing the OE suspension?.

I think the Renault stance was they will have to replace it with standard Cup suspension.

Spares are availiable they can build new dampers or the old ones cna be fixed they won't stick Cup pack suspension on though as then thats would be a modified car as the trophy should have trophy suspension.

As for whats better depends what you want trophy is good my preference would be Leda though or similar as my personaly preference to setups is bound to be different than anyone else spring weight wise and Ledasdo a free swop service on springs.
