Problem with iOS5 on my iPhone! SMS LIMIT! (Massive over-reaction. 100k limit)

Ok, I am a HUGE Apple fan. Was first in to buy the iPhone 4, paid £600, have an iPad 2 and love it love it love it!

I was extremely satisfied with my iPhone 4 and was so excited about iOS5. Anyways, Updated to iOS5 and lost all my apps. Ok, I will now have to download 300 apps again etc. Fine, I'll do it.

BUT, this is where it takes the p!ss! This has happened to SO MANY PEOPLE, keep reading:

iPhones running iOS5 are now reaching their MAXIMUM limit for SMS messages. Till you delete some messages, you CANNOT RECEIVE NEW MESSAGES!

Yes, thats right, it looks like Apple has SPLIT the number of texts your iPhone will store in order to provide for iMessage.

I have been using iPhones for over 4 years, and have NEVER deleted a text message. Some have great sentimental value and I do not want to delete them!!! Now, I cannot receive messages and it keeps telling me to delete messages. I deleted HUNDREDS and still the problem persists! According to Apple forums etc, this is happening all over!

The only solution??

START YOUR PHONE FROM NEW WITHOUT RESTORING FROM BACKUP!


Seriously, iOS5 is amazing, and I love my iPhone etc, BUT, this is f*cking PATHETIC!!!

Anyone know of any software which can extract my old text messages and save them in a readable format on my laptop (windows).

Ok just to test I deleted a thread of messages which had been going on for almost 3 years. My iPhone then began receiving messages. That thread alone must have contained tens of thousands of messages. I am now restoring from my backup this morning to get those texts back, then I have to back them up on my laptop SOMEHOW with some sh!tty 3rd party app, then go back to my iPhone and delete more texts so I can use the f*cking thing to get texts!

Its so damn backwards I am so damn annoyed!

I understand that its as simply as that, but when you have had the option of Not deleting and actually keeping the messages for any sort of future reference, its really sh*te!

I mean, for me to receive messages after updating to iOS5, I have to delete more than half of my existing texts in order to be able to receive more. WHY limit the SMS count!?!?! I have at least 4GB free on my 32GB iPhone, why limit them / reduce the limit with an iOS update!? It doesnt make sense!

Some people havent even been able to receive texts after deleting ALL of their texts!! Its b*llshit!!!!!!

I have OCD and delete all the irrelevant old s**t anyway, only keep important or recent things!

Well Apple had raised it to 75,000 ages ago, and it is thought to have been raised again.

But now, it seems its been split/lowered.

Doesnt make any sense.

It takes a few seconds to delete a thread of messages your never going to read again. Why is this an issue?

Sentimental text messages are for girls, you're never going to read them again when you have to scroll through thousands to find that 1 message where your girlfriend said you had nice ears.

I am still baffled by most of the updates tbh.

I just did a backup before doing the iOS5 install and it still put my phone back to normal with a restore from backup around 100 apps contacts email texts etc all back on my phone. Not sure why it doesn't work for everyone? seems hit and miss

onto the subject of having 100,000 texts on your phone, WTF! I clean mine out every couple of weeks as I hate scrolling through crap to pick up a conversation. Maybe it's a bit OCD but I couldn't bear to have that many on my phone. I can see sort of why it upsets people, but surely its not difficult to delete at least 50% of them? you must have so much crap on there which is totally irrelevant?

+1 to be honest just keep the sentimental texts and delete the crap, I also don't mean this horribly or trying to start an argument but why in hell would you keep ten's of thousands of messages makes no sense to me.

What I don't get is that if you get a message that holds such value, then it's likely to be someone you communicate with on a regular basis. So when Doris says 'You have lovely ankles' and you then send hundreds more messages, when you get to a rainy day and you decide you want to make yourself feel better, you're going to have to scroll 'load more messages' scroll scroll 'load more messages' just to read her ankle compliment again. You can't save individual ones in another location on the phone so they're always going to be mixed with the rest.

That is an issue - bit of a bawlache actually. But no real biggie.

I've never understood the fascination in hundreds, if not thousands of texts on any device. I've had a mobile since '97 and still send no more than half-a-dozen texts a day. Sometimes I don't send anything. I can't get my head around people having the need to send 200-300+ texts per day? Maybe that's why I've not noticed this SMS limit on my 'ol 3GS?
