Problems faced with rev'ing over 8k rpm...

Looking at new spec.

Like the idea of Catcam 423's but they would require a redline over 8k to get the best from them.

Obviously i would go for:
High comp pistons
Uprated conrods
valve springs
vernier pulleys (delete VVT)
uprated bottom end bearings

over 8k the hydraulic lifters become an issue ive heard, has anyone ever done a conversion to solid lifters?

what other problems could i face? standard crank not up to job?

thanks

You can convert them easy enough on the f4r's, take one apart and machine some bar to fit inside.

Solids for direct to tappet engines like the F7R are £28 each!

Crank will be fine.

what else could be a problem with rev'ing to say 8300k rpm?

You would want to investigate the durability of the rockers.
I'd fit a paddle clutch, I dont like taking standard ones past 8000rpm at a push.

Make sure the rods and particulalry the bolts are decent quality.

Make sure your oil supply is adequate, increased rpm requires higher pressure. if you concentrate on getting your crank clearances right, you shouldnt have any problems on the std oil pump.

im building a similar/higher spec F4R over the next couple of months, so feel free to keep in contact for any info.

ok padel clutch needed then :)

what make rods/pistons are you using or would you recommend?

for pressure i will block the oil squirts under the pistons. Any other ways to help with pressure?

add me on msn if you fancy mate: b_b_w_s@hotmail.com :)

flywheel bolts and fitting a shear-pin to the flywheel were two other things which popped into my head just now!

When I spoke to QEP he said 422s peak at 7500 and 423 at 7700?

I didnt go for 423 incase I threw a rod at 8000 lol
