Project 172 track car

i bought this of a friend who had a slight bump in it over a year ago and the car has sat in a barn till i got my hands on it.

first up was to remove all the broken bits and buy new panel ect, thanks to mickstoke for the wings and headlights

so with most of the front end built up i found a new problem the aux belt had been caught in the crash and i think its made the timing belt jump a tooth, been reading up on other people who have had belts tying up with each other, the engine runs fine for about 5 mins then starts miss firing and a rattles when i rev it, so going to time it up again and do a compression test, but would one tooth out on the cams bend a valve??

small update all the broken front end parts are now replaced so looks like a car again, full interior is stripped and my new bucket seat was delivered yesterday.

and the major issue was the engine which iv stripped and found its bend some valves no surprise there then.

lots of progress on the car, engine runs fine after its rebuild. and had lots of things carbon wrapped before i take it out on tuesday for its first track day

thanks still plenty more to do, need to sell my other toy so i can get better tyres and a roll cage

and im off to Teeside autodrome local circuit. never been yet so it should be interesting

first track day down, really good day, got 1 or 2 small issues the fuel guage has stopped working and every now and then the car misses but with a flick of the key, not switching the engine off but just quick blip the fault goes away so need to check sensors hope its something simple,

but all in all had a really good day got top speed of 110mph down the straight

in between track days im finally getting around to painting the car so after 2 days of stripping and prep work this is the current state hopefully tomorrow it will be getting painted in a new colour

the old girl now has a MOT, so roll on the 1st of august when it gets taxed, only a weekend car to keep it going and do some testing.

some new pics after a busy week, had a good time at the meet at teeside OK cafe.

done a bit of engine bay tidy up and cut some holes in the bumper to add a bit more cooling on the track

just a quick dramatic update, took it to elvington on sunday on the poor clio made some lovely sounds doing 125/130 mph and this is the result so now looking for a new engine :-(

havnt updated for ages now but, new engines in running and tested ready for Oulton Park next week send it back on the rollers and it come out with 179.4 BHP so happy with that.

update, i love french cars this one keeps me busy, took it to olton park and after a morning or running mint the clutch or some think if the pressure plate has broke resulting in a really loud rattle, strip down tomorrow to find the damage.

apart from that i removed the ABS system and fitted a manual rear brake bias and i must say the car felt so much better aster a bit of tweaking

since the cars off the road waiting for the new clutch i got carried away and chopped the spare wheel well out and strengthened the rear axle up a bit.
hopefully getting a roll cage fitted soon so ditched the lower half of the dash

new lightened fly wheel fitted, haven't had a chance to see what difference it makes as its always been snow/ice or rain the past thew weeks.

Looks to have progressed alot since last time I seen it at the OK Diner meet (I was the lad in the BG 182 with buckets, harness' OMP wheel etc). Got any more track days planned?

next up on my list of things to sort is the power steering as its always leaked, iv gone for a saxo elec one as it tidy's up the engine bay.
just need to get the pipes made up and find out what belt size i need

been busy getting the car ready for oulton park again. new power steering set up fitted and working, and found a spare head light to chop a cold air feed in to

not doing 26th as i booked todays oulton with msv but due to the weather it got cancelled, so re booked for 1st of feb.

just a quick update, after a trip to oulton park at the start of the month, i haven't done much to the car just tidying up parts.
first time out with the roll cage and saxo power steering setup and im really pleased the cage has stiffened the car up so much might not be as quick as some cars out there but its great fun to drive

will up date some interior pics over the weekend but last night i decided to ditch the carbon wrap bonnet and paint it white.

small update after a busy bank holiday doing teesside track day and york dragway very pleased as i got a 14.6 down the quarter mile, not bad for my first attempt at drag racing.

now its time for a bit of maintenance as the dephaser pulley is getting rather loud so iv pulled the engine out to give the engine bay a quick clean and paint up.

also ditched the red wheels and went back to the being blue
