Project Tungsten (Not 56k friendly)

  Tungy
Right, as some of you may remember. I smashed my poor tungsten valver up about 5 months ago now. Only now is it getting somewhere near to getting back on the road. Had a lot of work to do (Engine out strip and change lots of bits on it, pulling out front of chassis, replacement subframe and bits, stitching in a new offside headlamp surround, new bonnet, bumper, wing and the list goes on).

A lot of you may be thinking "Is all that work worth it on a 92' valver?". Well yes and no. Was only insured TPFT so isnurance wouldn't right it off, therefoer it was either break it or ressurect it. And my fatehr and I chose the route of ressurecting her. And what a job it's been! Can't add up how many hours we've both put into working on it (my dad especially), forunately the cost hasn't been too extreme (about £300+ atm). Anyway, here's some pictures of the progression, unfortunately I can't fidn one of it after the crash, I'm sure I have one somewhere!

What a mess...:(

Errrr, mangled >.<

Don't look too healthy.... Neither does the car. Always do a bit when you can. Even if you're hungover after having a house party the night before.

Twisted subframes are not good :nono:

However, a £25 second-hand straight subframe is! (When supplied with free wishbones and everything's been given a lick of paint)

New subframe in place

And again...

Unfortunately no more pics from between subfram going in and engine back in etc etc. So here she is now...

Plan of action for tomorrow: Get it off those axle stands and take it out for a test drive :). Can't wait! It's been too long! Still a bit of work to do, however tomorrow will be the big day (will it drive straight or not?). Wish me luck! And comments welcome.

  Looking for a ph-quick...
Looking good Brad, well last time i seen it it was on axle stands with no wheels and no front end :(. She'l be fine! Keep up the good work!

  Tungy
Good work! I'd get some Post '80 wheels though.

Haha thanks :p. Kept the wheels for now to keep the cost down. Gonan keep them till the tread runs out on the toyos I think.

Thanks for the comments and yes, a lot of time and patience was involved.

good luck, best place to find out if its bent is to drive over those rubble strips that lead into 30 zones or roundabouts, the ones that are like sleeping policeman but really small and close together, if you can feel it crab when going over them its bent.

How much did it all cost in end

Not sure mate. I'd guess about £350 - £400 so far. Just need bits and bobs now for cosmetics. If it drives fine though and no problems in the next few weeks I'm going to get my sills redone (price guideline anyone?) and then going for a full respray I think (mate's dad will do me a deal ;))

Oh and Fred, My dad did that inner panel :p WOuldn't trust myself with a job like that lol!

MOT isn't due till may.

  Tungy
Thanks :). Few bits I need...
- The plaggy trims that sit under either headlight
- nearside wing mirror cover
- clear side repeaters
- maybe ph2 grill and sidestrips but undecided yet (depends what pops up)

Jobs a good one :) Took her out this morning, seems to drive well! so I'm chuffed. Only problem was when we got back we noticed a big leak of gearbox oil coming out of it and thought oh dear he we go....

Jacked it up and took off the nearside front wheel and noticed the driveshaft gaiter had come loose as we hadn't fitted it back on properly lol. Got a hose clip and now it's all sorted :)

Brad was there anyone helping you, even still looks like you worked hard on it.

And if it still runs, & your not paying labour, its always worth it.

  Tungy
2 tone! nice lol

Some great work there mate. Maybe get it double checked by a mechanic to make sure its 100%

Yeah I know what you mean mate. A couple of people have said tog et it MOT'd, but if I take it for an MOT there going to wonder why I'm taking it in 5 months early, and then they're going to be 'extra' picky so it's a bit scary :S

Looks good, its a nice feeling when it all comes back together. Have done a good job on it, just need to sort out the two tone thing going on now and you'll never know its had a bump.

Your from round nuneaton way aren't you brad?, i'm sure i've seen the car going round before now I think about it.

No fella. Wigston, Leicester. Must have been someone else you've seen. Can't wait till it's all sorted now. Anyobne know how much it's gonna be to get some new sills and have a garage replace them? Mates dad says he will get my car resprayed for a couple of hundred max :D awesome. Obviously going to respray it tungtsten ;)

  Tungy
Oh yeah and I've got a pic of the front of the car after I had the bump, nasty! Wantto upload but my PC isn't recognising my phone when I libnk it up. If anyone would like to PM me there mobile number I will send them the picture and they could upload it for me? Would be nice, cheers.
