Pure Motorsport stub axle spacing.

Evening all!

A friend of mine has fitted the rear stub axle spacers (10mm) on his 172.

After fitting them he's ended up with some camber sticking the NSR wheel in at the top, a noticeable amount.

Hes stripped them and rebuilt them and to no avail, cleaned all mating surfaces etc.

Hes a tech, just not on the forum,

Is there anything obvious hes doing wrong that people know of?

OSR is all fine.

I know it's hard to see without being there but I'm just wondering if there's anything anybody knows of before we go back to it tomorrow and try and headscratch!

Many thanks!

Dont have a bent stub axle do you? Guess it would be exaggerated slightly with a spacer.

Nothing looks odd or out of place. Looked fine prior to the fitment of the spacers [emoji848]

Have you had the car aligned before fitting the shims? If one is cambered more then the extra 10mm will raise the wheel slightly.

No, I had tracking done before. I measured the spacers and they were within 0.1mm top to bottom.

Bent stub axle or beam something to look at, if the spacers were flat (and measure equally edge to edge) there isn't much else it can be I don't think....

Is the ride height equal left to right at the rear from bottom of sill to ground?

I meant that comment for the op. But your input is valued 😄

I thought you had something similar or was the mating surface just ever so slightly off on yours?

My rear left is a bit toe in and with the scenic hubs being huge its very noticeable.

No, my spacers were non flat around the mounting holes which was an artifact left from the laser cutting of the spacers. I just put them on a flat surface and gave them a rub until they were flat enough for me.

Car hasn't yet been aligned, I believe its booked in today.

We've measured the same and all we're within 10.08mm and 10.1mm.

I'm pretty certain its gonna be a stub axle myself if there's no way/ a certain way of rebuilding them.

Ride height is the same, it's on new genuine Cup shocks all round and new h&r springs at the same time

Thankyou all for the replies, gonna re-strip it all tonight, soda blast the rear of the stub, and all mating surfaces just to ensure its all clean and have a good took to ensure nothings bent!

Will update the post later with what we find incase it later becomes useful to someone else

I would also swap L&R stub axles. If the problem moves to the other side you have found the issue. Stub axle could be bent by such a small amount that you may not see the problem without the wheel on.

Good shout! I wasn't sure if they were interchangeable

I'm pretty sure they are, As long as the smaller hole is in the right place your good to go - Unless someone more in the know says differently?
