Question on the 182

  Ziel Nurburgring

So with the new 182 having the Cup option, does that mean they remove the sound proofing, add in the bench seat and put in thinner glass if you opt for it? One of the lads at work is going to put his name down, but wants to know if the option includes stripping out or whether its just the Supension set up etc.

If not, then the Cup is truly dead. Long live the Cup (2 years manufacture must mean its a contender for classic status)!

Nah they dont offer a stripped out version, anyway the biggest weight savings are the air con and the ABS. I am in 2 minds wether or not to sell my Cup because as you said in a few years I think it will be sought after....

  Ziel Nurburgring

I know it would be an arse, but getting both and merging them is probably a good idea. Does that mean the Group N chip(Or other cup only chip) wont work with the 182 if it has all the toys?

Partly right...

The Climate control is a whopping 25kg, but ABS only adds 9kg

Heres a list of the main weight saving areas I got off Renault >>>

- Deletion of air conditioning: 25kg
- Deletion of spare wheel: 17kg
- Deletion of ABS: 9kg
- Noise insulation: 8.5kg
- Deletion of side airbags + leather seats: 4kg
- New wheel rims: 4kg (total)

Theres loads more little bits, but all that adds up to 89kg saved!

182 doesnt come whit a spare either so thats even less of a saving over standard.

Im sure the 182 will be nice but I woundt sell a cup to buy one.

Arent those the figures for the cup?
Yes... Im just pointing out what bits weigh what...

The 182 wont be any lighter than a 172, as it may have the spare removed, but there are other bits added, so will end up being basically the same.

  Ziel Nurburgring

Sorry Rich, Jonny confused me, thought he was saying that those were features of the cup option.

Damn I went to get the 172 weight from the Renault site but only the 182 is on there now !

Dash -

The mk2 172 weighs 1110kg too, and the max torque rpm is wrong on there too, so me thinks they just copied the 172 page and changed a few bits...

We wont know for sure until theyre here!

  Clio v6

Yes there does seem to be a figures difference. Cliosport figures differ also.

Mk2 172

Kerb vehicle weight
1035 kgs

Gross vehicle weight
1490 kgs

ClioSport weighbridge tested vehicle weight
1120 kgs
These measurements were taken from a car with a full tank of fuel and do not include the driver

The figures on the ClioSport spec show the weight for the mk1 as at the time there was no figure for the mk2, but its deffo 1110kg for the mk2

  Clio v6

Well it seems we should forget all about figures anyway.

The 182 is way faster than the Cup. Dont underestimate this 182. Try not to race one of these unless you want to get beaten badly.

;)

  Ziel Nurburgring

Isnt the 182 intended to be a Evo/Scooby/Zonda beater. You will just have to install the Halford aluminium table on the roof to keep it down in corners....;)

how can this 182 be quicker than the cup plus 1mph top speed and slower 0-60??? this car does look very nice though..when can you buy one?

Bit of a shame they added a bit more power but more weight.. kinda defeats the purpose.

Rich, did you actually weigh every part from a 172, or manufacturors figures ? or just guestimates.

No, Ive got a copy of a press release from Renault last years about the "new" Cup model and in there it has those weight savings, so they are pukka Renault figures!

Ah .. okay, who would have though air-con could be so heavy :D I think that a cup with aircon is a crime.. you dont buy a car that is designed to be light then fill it up with heavy stuff.. its either one or the other.

Saying that if you have a cup with air-con its your choice, and maybe you bought the cup cause you prefer its looks and werent intersted in the whole wieght thing.

The thing that gets me about the 182 is its heavier yet they got rid off the spare ?? crazy.

We should probably reserve judgement on the 182 until weve actually seen how quick they are and Ill be able to drive one of the first ones as my mates getting one in...
