Even with low mileage and how mint it is
Also check out condition/history of brakes/exhaust/shocks,radiator and aircon condensor.
I took the bumper off mine last weekend.only to find this.
Get a quote from fred@btm or Mick at Diamond for belts, dephaser & water pump as you are in Birmingham.
If the above are good £1600 is not unreasonable.

way overpriced dude. thats reasonable if its low mileage in mint condition with belts done but without belts its a £1500 car max

for reference i drive a 52 plate iceberg 172 with previous belt done on 57,000 and i paid £1200. bar stonechips its a 8.5/10 car

I had people telling me my Clio was overpriced. I thought it was until I saw the state of some of the 'minters' out there for £1200 (how can a car be mint with kerbed wheels, a bit of knocking and the odd scuff around it? Maybe I am picky). I also saw people way £600 more for a car with 30k less on it but with them still on the original belts and a knackered dephaser. That was before I get to their cars looking way more tired than mine externally and internally (I wonder if the car was clocked to be brutally honest). Maybe I did overpay.

FWIW I paid £1600 for my Iceberg 172 with 69k and a very comprehensive history (including bills from when the car was nearly new). It came with the following with that:
New Balljoints
Stainless exhaust to look like a 182 (that was a big selling point to me given the 172's crap exhaust reputation)
Cup rear Spoiler
Speedline Turinis in Superb condition with very good Toyos and Contis all round
Clean car bar slight melting of the steering wheel (one of the better ones I have seen) and minor stonechipping up front.
Belts done in April 2010 at 30k by Mark Fish.
New Brembo Max discs up front and pads (all round)
Quantum Remap

I have since had the 'belts and dephaser done ; Fred was saying it was one of the cleanest cars he had worked on which was a credit to the car amongst other stuff. It has been a superb daily with no real issues present.

@MattRS182 If the history of the car is good and the car is a genuinely clean example I would but it attempt to go down to £1500.

Yes, I know forum cars get alot of bigging up from members but I would still check out the car carefully, although I am sure there are good peeps out there. Years ago I bought a Triumph Stag from a very 'knowledgeable' member the club seemed to worship. If I told you that I was shocked that the car had an MOT in addition to the new owner of the car still fixing things on it certain club members would call me a liar. As a matter of fact, they were shocked when I 'moaned'.

Here is the car in question.

Bit expensive. But then,I paid over the odds for my car as I knew I would only like a 'loud' colour, so can't speak really!
Not really if you bought the car you wanted.
What you pay for the car is largely irrelavent if your long term intention is to use it and still have it in 5 or even 10 years time,as you will have to spend around £750 every year on average to keep it up to scratch.
The supply of neglected cheap cars that attract the run it into the ground faction will soon expire, and then the remaining cars will be owned by enthusiasts that truely appreciate them.

I can honestly say there is not 1 scratch or dent on the whole car, the interior is the same absolutely immaculate and low miler I'm still tempted....

I would say he is right @STEVE.M but people's perceptions of condition varies massively.

I remember one guy saying his Clio was like brand new but that his latest car was even more like brand new? How can you possibly comprehend that? It either is showroom fresh or it isn't!

The Clio was so brand new that the steering wheel was falling to pieces and the wheels had a good amount of typical kerbing! It may have been in good condition, but not mint/brand new by any stretch.

A specialist, are you saying you cant?

Of course you can; go onto ebay :). Alot of cars I see for sale advertised as mint are far from that however upon viewing ; it took me 4 cars to get a car as clean as the Clio ; 2 of the cars were described as 'mint' in the adverts. I never knew that trim falling off or EML lights qualified for that .

Are you forgetting this was an option from new to give the car provenance?
Proved it had been PDI`d & Road tested correctly.
