Quick question about specs and ANPR cameras

Taken from another site - SPECS average speed camera systems utilise state of the art video system with Automatic Number Plate Reading (ANPR) digital technology.

Now do ANPR only pick up reflective plates as in legal ones, what about French, german dutch plates that type of thing?

Not been caught, dont plan to go speeding through to find out, was just wondering!

if it doesn't automatically read it i heard there is an operator to try and interpret those.... with specs anyway...

They are programmed to read any plates from Europe. If it cant read then an operator checks it.

These on the A71 yet do you know John? I've been getting train to work so haven't found out yet...!

i heard that if you change lane between cameras they can't get you - gotta be a brave man to try that though!

Anyone know if they work multi lane? There are only two cameras on 3 lane stretch of roadworks round here. Does that mean one lane not being checked?

Had a good one here a little while back. Two buses belonging to the same company, so they were the same make and colour scheme, were travelling along the same route some distance apart. And they had similar number plates. So you can guess what happened. The computer calculated the average speed from the time the second bus passed the first camera to the time the first bus passed the second camera and issued a ticket. The human being who was supposed to check that the computer had correctly read the plates took a quick look at the two photos, saw (what looked like) the same vehicle in both, and the bus company got issued with an infringement notice for a speed that even an idiot would recognise a bus (fitted with a governor!) couldn't do.

If it happened to you or I we wouldn't know there was another Clio Sport like ours with a similar plate just down the road, and our car would be capable of that speed. And we'd get a huge penalty.

lol, can imagine the driver getting a bollocking for doing 95 through some road works!

Valid point though Gordon, often the soft squidgy bit of computer systems that are the problem!
