Just spoke to R-Sport this morning about the competition ECU...........they also have a replica Super 1600 Vented Bonnet at £250 unpainted............that would be very nice indeed...............they say it cuase the engine to run hotter than normal but should be alright as long as the majority of your driving isnt around the town. Compettion brakes and exhaust in the pipeline next too.

Who are R-sport anyway?...are they officially recognized by Renault?...sorry bit of a newbie question!...lol!...do they have a website or list of all available products?
R-Sport does not equal Renault Sport - they are an independant componay in Wimbledon who have been tuning hot renaults for years. RenaultSport is based in france.
John at R-Sport said the Bonnet vent will cause the engine to run at higher temps - dont know why but I assume its because cold air coming in will go out agin through the bonnet vent - I would have thought it would have been used to cool the 220BHP 1600 engines not make them hotter. He did say it would only really affect those engines being driven regularly around towns/cities though?
Do R-Sport have a web site listing their products and services?..are they on a par with K-tech/Hill Power/BB etc??

Yes AFAIK R-Sport is a fancy new name for Radbourne Racing the old-school South London Renault specialists. Werent they supposed to be the official purveyors of the mythical factory upgrades for the 172 Cup? Or are all the upgrades actually available now?
Anyway if it does indeed mean that its the vented bonnet that makes it run hotter, it would probably be down to the fact that vents have to be precisely in the right place for each model/engine layout to work properly. So that vented bonnet is designed for a super 1600 Clio. Any other engine layout, in particular the location of the radiator, will make a big difference. You might think that any kind of venting will improve cooling ie. something is better than nothing, but remember this isnt an old Beetle - its a water cooled engine that needs airflow through its radiator to keep the block at the right temperature, just being able to cool the outside of the block or head by air going past isnt going to do much. So the vented bonnet may well upset radiator airflow (going in through the rad and out *under* the car) on anything other than a super 1600 engine layout. Any other ideas?
Thats sounds like a good theory NicK - I notice in the photo Tom posted that their is a large bit of ductwork from th ebonnet going into the car somewhere - I imagine this is to get cold air to the driver and co-driver - I thought originally that it wasa sinilar induction system as used by the Peougeot 206 WRC team ie cone filter which sits vertically and then the air filter housing built into the bonnet comes down to enclose it fed by a bonnet went - dont think it is this though because their is noo connection from the super 1600 bonnet vent to any filter - is that a single throttle body to the front of the engine I see?
