Race with a Rover Turbo

Had some fun on the m11 (i think) that or the A1,

One of them rover 220 turbo lookin thingys pulled up my arse (Very clean, obvious work done), i was doin bout 75, anyway i pulled in, wasnt in the mood, as he pulled past i clocked his number plate ** N 200BHP ** i thought fair enough lets see! knocked down to 4th and floored it! i was right up his arse! obviously not liuke a dickhead sittin on his bumper, but found my self havin to let go of the pedal then acceleratin again so as not to ram him, knocked into fifth, he edge abouthalf a car ahead as i started but then i was up his arse again! we were doin 125 when he pulled over and i went past, both givin each other the thumbs up!

A good days racin!

200BHP is what they give out as standard, they raced them in in the TOCAT challenge... if he had word done then your looking at 200BHP plus.. In a straight line, i wouldnt bother racing one myself.. they are seriously quick, however they handel like a boat... otherwise id prob buy one being as cheap as they are. its a dam shame they cant corner.

id say the 172 cup would be a good match for the 220 turbo, though i wouldnt say there was a lot between them on a straight, with the rover maybe having the edge. a 220 should see 140MPH or there abouts.. not sure why he pulled over.

Could have just been the 16v one - they would be similar to a 16v Clio, if it was a genuine turbo - straight line youd have had no chance.

NO THIS WAS DEFO A TURBO! IVE SEEN EM AROUND, HAD THE BADGES AN ALL THE TRIM!

AND ALTHOUGH HE DIDNT LEAVE ME, THIS WAS NO 16V! AND HE DID EDGE IN FIFTH!

WHY HE PULLED IN AT 120?? PROB FOR THE SAME REASON I WOULDNT TAKE MINE UP TO 140, IT WAS AN AROAD AND WE WERE GOIN FAST ENOUGH!

IT WAS A FRINEDLY RACE, A BIT OF FUN, WE WERNT TRYIN TO BREAK TO SPEED BARRIER!

maybe so danny, however from the above clip i see no side strip nor badge that indicates its a turbo.. or maybe im going blind? can anyone else see this?

though if you was there in person, then fair enough.in anycase my views havent changed...

My uncle had one, they accelerated fast, performace car did 0-60 in 5.9, in gear acceleration not particularly good, 172 has better top speed so not a suprised you beat him :D

i cant see the turb badge on the clip but am not really scrutinising it, but lets just say it was kinda clear on the boot above the number plate 200bhp. when i was sittin on his ass

Believe me i know there quick, and loads of praise for em, but i was pleased of my efforts and wanted all to know that clios rule! those that dont know already!

Danny!!

Just realised you had a 172, i was thinking you had a Clio 16v, sorry mate!!! 172 should be pretty close, i dont know why i thought you had a 16v!?!?

  CTR EK9 turbo

Yeah, the turbos have turbo written on the back of them in white lettering. I had a race with one from Bordon Slip road to the Liss Roundabout, overtook him and kept going, he did put up a good fight tho - it was mildly modded too (exhaust), and i only seemed to be able to overtake on acceleration, but im sure if the road was longer hed have reeled me in - having more power and probably better aerodynamics........still toasted him tho, and a toast is a toast!

Ive raced a modified one up to !00 ish (on a private road) and it was very close. But then it was modified - apparently exhaust, filter and chip. Dont know what bhp it was pulling though.

I heard that the 220 Turbo was quicker over the 1/4 mile than an Escort Cosworth (but not 0-60 on account of it not having 4WD).

Id imagine that it was probably a 220 Turbo you had a play with as the NA 220 is a 130bhp T-Series 2.0, which does 0-60 in about 9 secs - not 16v or 172 territory!

Seriously? My mate as a 220 turbo coupe and there is no way my 172 would get anywhere near him in a straight line - at least so I thought?? Around corners is a different matter as their handling is dubious to say the least, but I am shocked that my car could apparently keep anywhere near him - Id still say that from what my car feels like and what his feels like, Id be a little spec in his rear view mirror

Ive been wasted by quite a few cars and they are always high powered turbos. e.g. 280 bhp Cosworth sierra, 310 bhp P1, 911 Turbo latest shape. Held a std. Cosworth from 40 till !30 (private race track) then he overtook and I got upto about !50ish. The 200 Turbo coupe though was a very close call. There is another one that drives around near work that is in higher state of tune and had a pop @ my mate in his P1 - mate said he beat it but it was very quick indeed !

Simon not being rude or anything but what kind of power are you running m8?. To get 150 in a clio you would need some serious power.

Chun.

There was a Tomcat version as well but cant remember if any hotter or just a marketing run out model.Had a minor play with standard one last night, yes quick but made me chuckle when he had to brake before a roundabout and I barely lifted. Definitely straight line only vehicles

it is a rover after all!

Tomcats have suspension changes, maybe beefier/stiffer anti roll bars etc..think its same engine tune
