Racing Cup3 next step

  Race Clio 3 cup
Hi guys, newbie here,

I've been racing in the French hillclimb championship since last year in a new racing clio cup. I've run the car straight out of the box so to speak, having great fun especially as some of the events are up to five miles.

OK, problems, well the main one has been driving a left hooker at speed, some very hairy moments close to right hand ditches!!! Also have had problems finding suitable soft slicks because of the 17" boots, am running the softest compound Michelin circuit tyres at mo. That apart the car sticks like the proverbial s**t when the tyres do warm up.

Next step is to upgrade the motor from 205bhp, i see a few of you guys on the forum have links with clio cup racers and as I'm not restricted to power output, I was wondering what your suggestions might be.

Cheers

Andy

^sweet

throttle bodies and cams, even whack the megane 225/230 turbo engine in (although its yet to be done!)

What mechanical restrictions do you have for your championship or is it open?

Even if you are free on power, do you still have to use std. inlet?

Looks lovely mate, as above. Meggy 225 lump aint been done but i reckon it might be a bit tight as we all know there aint much room in the 197 bays.

not sure here, but if you say you've run it straight out the box, are all the gear ratios the same on the sequential box as standard?

because you are doing hill climbs what about changing ratios to suit?

unless you've already done it?

As I said straight out of the box, I'm a real kick the tyres kind of gentlemen racer

, plan would be take the car to someone to change ratios, fit new cams and TB's, then rolling road and tweak ecu. Any suggestions on who would do a good job?

  Renaultsport 220T
You should speak to some of the rally teams in France running the R3. Or Renaultsport there. It's putting out 230bhp. With cams, and a different exhaust manifold.

Let us know about what events you are planning on doing this season.

  Caterham/172/XC90/RX7
Love the car, they're a real laugh on the hillclimb circuits

I ran an Ex 172 cup car on the UK Hillclimb circuits last year (checkout www.playtoymotorsport.com )

The car was brilliant but needed lots more power to stop coming 2nd to a seriously sorted MK1 golf with big power from a german race engine. Again we were limited to standard block and head but everything else was free.

When I started looking about for power mods throttle boddies engine management and cams were top of the list. The problem then got complicated due to the squential 'box, I couldn't find anyone willing to play with the standard management to cope with the new changes not even Wayne @ chip wizards in Rochdale (the man to see with any racecar). Big money and time were needed to get it all to work reliably so it went and was replaced with a Caterham

Re: the tyres have you looked at Hoosier tyres? They do a specialist tyre available in larger sizes for the American sprint market called something like auto cross. The tyres are Hoosier A6 and were spot on all year i'm sure they do them in 17's to suit the 197 they're also radials so no need to play with setup.
