RB182 and new DS3

Hi guys,

Decided to go for a drive upto the dales as the girlfriend's dad has just PCP'd a new DS3.

Its the Design Sport Plus, so other than the "racing", the top spec one.

Spec: 1.6T / 155bhp / 177 lb-ft / 0-60mph 7 seconds / Full leather

£200/month for 3 years.

Had a drive back to back with my 182, my thoughts:

DS3 - Miles better ride, better low end pull due to the turbo.
The interior is a really really nice place to be, very quiet and the general build is very "German".

Clio - The steering feel is better, the DS3 is very light.
Doesnt feel as quick as the DS3 in gear - although its definatly quicker from a standing start.

Nice review. I do quite like the DS3 but after my GF had the Mini Cooper S with the pug/citroen 1.6 turbo lump in, I definitely prefer the Clio's drive. On the other hand, she preferred the low down grunt for overtaking etc... So I guess it really is personal preference.

Its definatly on my list of "possible next cars" although the steering feel would take some getting used to after the clio.

Lovely car though, alot better than I thought it was going to be!

Makes the clio look very dated too IMO.

I thought those DS3s were tiny! Guess I was wrong, it makes the Clio look like a mouse :(

Quite like the look of the DS3. Although, £200 a month for 3 years doesn't mean much when we don't know what the deposit was!

i like these quite a lot tbh, look very nice imo and with a remap it will make them very capable indeed!

if they are the same as the mini engine then i guess the mod and power outputs will be similar??

Ye I can imagine they map well, is the route the next stage mods the same as with the turbo cooper S after just a map?

Really tempted by these because they have a proven engine and look just about right for me :)

Maybe worth waiting for the new RS Clio if I'm looking at these though?

155bhp and I would guess considerably heavier than the Clio? Seems strange that it feels quicker. You'd have thought the Clio would be (and feel) considerably quicker.

I do quite like little Citroens though.

I hear the racing DS3's are having issues with the turbos? Been told this a number of times. I have actually driven one, only a diesel job tho, felt really well put together to be honest. Not my cup of tea, really not a fan of the looks but not a bad car at all.

I had a white one trying to chase me down my local bipass on the way to the gym a while back, left him for dead.. no idea what it was engine wise tho.

Not really? A 182 only makes around 10bhp more if you're lucky and they have less torque and the peak is much higher in the rev range. About 30 ft/lbs less. In terms of weight theyre's alot of diff figures banded about for the DS3 so unsure.

As Mike pointed out, the heavier weight (1260kg's) and less power, its stands at about 120bhp to the tonne against the Clio's 165/tonne...

No doubting it makes it look dated - im willing to bet the Ds3 'feels' faster.

165 for a standard 182? Maybe if they had 182bhp..

The DS3 has more torque per tonne though. Probably a much more usuable power band too on a day to day basis. Track excluded.
