Really bad radio reception

  PH1 172 Sport
Ive got a Pioneer DEH-P700UB headunit and a half length aerial on the car. However the radio reception is as close to useless as possible. What can I do to make it better?

Is there anything that I should check apart from the connections on the back on the headunit?!

Thanks

Probably the Ariel base. (the bit under the roof but on top of the interior lining).

Its a complete sl*g of a job but the part is only around £15 from a dealers.

I had the prob on a ph2 clio, so was a bit tougher. (i've just noticed you have a ph-1, ariel at the front of the roof?)

You can't 'see' if its broken. it just breaks up inside, no doubt due to water/cold weather etc.

Just take the interior light off and unbolt it. Swap over.

ChrisD172... Good luck! lol!! (Ariel at the back? Roof lining has to come down!)

  In between cars....
Is there no a plastic moulding at the back of the roof lining, pull it off and you can get in at it? feeding a new wire through would be another story though :S

Thanks for the help Daniel. Ive just ordered a new genuine base online for £8. Will give it a go when it turns up.

I took my 05 RS in to get its reception fixed - previously the reception was perfect but all of a sudden it was terrible. In the end it was a disconnected cord behind the radio.

I've now had a new base new aerial and new lead. Reception is still pretty dire so it may be time for a new head unit at some point. Unless you can get signal boosters?
