rear disk removal - 172

  Ultra 197 ex 172 Cup
Hi,

whats the easiest way to remove the rear disks, i got new ones with bearings fitted, i have unbolted the center nut from the axel, and removed the caliper, do i just need to keep hitting the disk with a hammer to free it ? as its stuck solid ?

Also what torque should i tighten the nut up when i put the new disc on, give me the info and i'll make a guide with pics as their isn't one for the rear discs ?

instead of wacking it put your hands either side of it and try and ease it off after soaking it in wd40. ive never seem them stuck unless the carrier is bent.

are both sides like this ?

just wack it, then rotate it 90 degrees and wack it again.

keep wacking and turning until its free

well i only tried to remove one disc about six+ months ago, couldn't get it off (rear back passenger side) so i just changed the pads, and took the discs back. The discs are looking pretty knackered now, so i have replacements, they are quite worn (even though its a cup, the VOSA inspectors that looked at my cup when i complainned for it failing mot for rear brake, and showed me the inside rear pads had about 1mm left on them) and i can feel the discs are smooth and very curvy (if u know what i mean) anyway, yep first time i tried putting really hard, didn't move at all. so plan to fit these tomorrow, just wanted to know if their was any other secrets than a hammer. when you say WD40, you mean just spray it in around the bearing ?

spray inside the ring and around the bearing give it time to penetrate. if that doesnt work you going to have to get some heat on it

mine must have been bent.. as i was waking the disk that hard with a hammer on a 4 post that it shattered like glass.. in the end i had to heat it too white hot and bar the ring off lol
