Rear Hub problem

  Blackgold 182
Hi guys,

Right...I replaced my rear brake discs a few months ago, I had a lot of trouble getting the nearside disc off (had to use a substantial hammer as it was missing the spacer ring). Now when I put the new disc on I also had to force it on! I've now got a noisy bearing so Im assuming I damaged the bearing when I forced it on the hub?!

I'm also assuming that the hub must have been warped slightly. Question is do I need a new hub or will I be able to maybe rub/file it down a bit so the new discs slip on as they are supposed to?!

Get a second hand stub axle.

Will only be £30 or so from someone breaking a car on here and it'll make sure it's a perfect fit.

Did you torque up the rear discs properly? They need to be pretty much spot on to 175nm or you'll be swapping them every 5-8k miles.

Yeh I torqued them up correctly.

I cleaned it but never greased it...should I have?

Always use a bit of copper grease on bearing assemblies. I had a friend who had some one offer to help him out with rear wheel bearings. Didn't know what he was doing, ended up welding the bearing to the stub axle through heat.

Did you put the washer back on behind the disc?

Yes I did! Im pretty sure the damage was done by me having to hammer the new disc/bearing assembly onto the stub axle! Ive bought a used stub axle on here so just new discs and pads to get fitted when i recieve that and I should be a happy chappy!
