Rear Shock Absorber

  MK2 172
Noticed some oil on the garage floor so took a look under the car. At the rear of the car there is a part covered in oil which is right next to the suspension coil. I assume this is the rear shock absorber and it looks buggered. Its a 52 reg Mk2 172 which does have an extended renault warranty but I bet when I phone up my local stealer (Bristol Street Exeter) they will claim its not covered. Anybody know how much these are from Renault or GSF. Also are they easy to change your self? Is there a giude any where on here on how to change the shock?
Only had the car a month and I expected it to last a bit longer before breaking.

very common fault

very easy to change (1 x 18mm bolt at bottom of shock, and 1x16mm nut at the top inside car)

about £45 from renault

Rears for my un cupd 182 which i think might be the same are £81 each, I've had them replaced under warranty several times but my cars under 3 years old, u got no chance under warranty tbh.

Bugger, looks like the warranty will be no help. Are they a Renault only part or do GSF sell one for less? Looks like I will do it myself as sounds easy to fit. Will have to go get my socket set and get me hands dirty. Oh well the joys of owning a Renault. At least the 5K kick will put a smile back on me face.

Mine felt very skittish when going round corners - like the back end was slipping even on slow corners and going over bumps on the motorway. I had the rear shocks replaced and it solved the problem.

Does the top nut or bottom bolt have to be done up to a certain torque? Or is it just a case of doing them up till tight? Did buy Dialogy CD's to find out this sort of stuff but buggered if I can get it to work.

Had alook through the Dialogy PDF's and found that the upper mounting nut should be 21Nm and the lower mounting bolt should be 105Nm.

Hi, noticed about a week ago that there was a clunk every time I pull away from drivers side rear suspension. Had a look underneath and rear shocker seems covered in fluid, passenger side totally dry.. I've booked it in at Renault for next week. Anyone know if this should this be covered by warranty and if it's a common fault..? It's just coming up for 2 yrs old.. (04 clio182 with cup pack) Cheers
