Relocating battery help and advice

Ive had a search, but nothing really conclusive came up.

Im wanting to move my battery to the boot, if i just use my current battery, other than 0 AWG wire, what else do i need to relocate? How have people connected the current positive wire, to the wire that will run to the boot?

Ive seen people using BMW terminals, but i cant for the life of me find any on the bay, and the local scrappie is poo!

Next question- Failing this, im looking at a red top battery, would i be better of with a 20 or a 25?

Do they need to be constantly trickle charged, as sometimes i may not use my car for a few days.

Thanks for your help :) Pics etc would be good :)

Ive used a BMW battery junction if you look through my thread. As you say 0wg wire is what you need for having the battery in the boot. Alternatively you maybe able to use some kind of junction box like the in car entertainment stuff uses (Amp fuse box type thing)

Redtop/non spillable batteries dont need to be trickle charged all the time but respond well to an optimiser if the car is being used infrequently. Ive had mine a few months and had no problems at all. (I do have an optimiser but havent got around to using it yet)

All my Personal opion based on haveing a standard battery in the boot and now having a redtop style battery under the passenger seat

So if i do get around to having a redtop, it should be ok with everyday use, and maybe 2 days max of not being used?

Im taking it your still using your BMW junction with the Red top?

Yea ive left mine for a week no probs, only doing short journeys atm too.

Like I say an optimiser would look after it nicely, they aint cheap batteries so i want mine to last as long as possible by keeping it topped up. Will be getting a power cable fitted in my shed this week so i can hook it up.

Alternatively you could fit a cutout switch to disconnect the battery when the car isnt in use. The battery wont go flat when not in use then

You can pick up a junction box from tweeks which I have got

if you want 0awg cable order KnuzKnoceptz for the terminals

Good terminals!

I got my 0awg from ebay - Voodoo I think, around £30 for 5 metres
If you are going to use a normal battery you can get post converter things (ebay again) which allow you to screw the terminal onto (M8 i think)

Depending on why you want to relocate the battery, you can lie it down in the stock position if its for induction kit etc. Saves messing about with junction boxes

Rear end happy is good, unless its on the brakes like mine currently does.

I was told by a very clever chap who sets up race cars that the best place for the battery is under the passenger seat.

Balances out the weight of the driver a little

Coz the 30 is alot of money?

If you have a read through my thread I was advised by the guy at my local battery specialist

having the battery in the boot isnt the best place for it, better than engine bay but not ideal. still a little high imo. best off on the floor behind the passenger seat, low centre of gravity, further back than before...

generally speaking its not practicale if you have rear seats! but if you are moving teh battery and still have rear seats then id question why your doing it in the first place
