Removed acoustic valve/ rear seats/ sub & amp

  b/g 182, meg tourer
ordered a new wheel arch moulding on friday. my old one looked like this. lol

so while i had the liner out i thought i would remove the acoustic valve. it was very easy. disconnected electrical plug to it. undone the bolt that holds the bracket on, pulled the rubber pipe out, then the valve just twists out. this is where it was

i then capped off the rubber pipe with a screc and taped it out of the way. same with the electrics. this is what it looks like without the acoustic valve

refitted my new arch liner

put the wheel back on and job done.
while i was at it i removed my sub and amp. then the rear seats.

took my car for a drive and its really bought my car to life :) its how the car should feel.
more weight saving soon ;)

Probably easier to point to the search but hey.

what does it do when you remove the valve?

Basicly the valve shuts at certain revs, so removing it is giving the engine more air. Some people tell they have lost torque and some tell they gained :D (but up till now I found no RR or what so ever :D )

It basicly adds noise.

What is the acoustic valve?

It's the thing on the second picture....right behind the two white connectors (1 electric / 1 pheumatic)

Oh and it was probably added to the car because of noise-regulations in a few (one) EU countries.

gives a bit of an induction noise :) didn't notice any change in performance though, didn't expect to either

think i only noticed a difference because the day i removed it the temp dropped by like 5degrees and i also removed the rear seats, a sub and amp :)

I was thinking about removing some weight as well, but I quite like having the sub. Have you weighed it all to see how much you've saved??

Didn't know about this acoustic valve malarky!

Think I shall be removing mine at the weekend now

So all you need to do is block off the rubber pipe with a suitably sized screw and Roberts your fathers brother?

Cheers,

David

yep thats all you have to do. put a screw in the rubber tube, tape it in too. and tape up the electrical connectors too. really easy job.
there is a really usefull thread linked to the trophy site. do a search for acoustic valve

just weighed it.

sub and amp - 13.6 kg
- 2.6 stone

seats + belt buckles - 21.8 kg
- 3.3 stone

total of seats + buckles + amp + sub = 35.4 kg
thats 5.9 stone!!!!!

more than i imagined imo, i notice it too because its all weight in the rear. need ideas to loose a bit off the front now...

Nicely done !
I did the same a month or so ago (backseats) and now i bought some Sparco bucket seats weighing 7,4 kg each  for the saving weoght in the front

Had a look under the seats (the OE cup seats that are in right now) and am really wondering on how to remove these.. Seems the rails are bolted on the chassis, can't find how/where to loosen them.

The seat itself is mounted with 4 bolts that i can loosen with a size 14 i think, but this means leaving the rails on there....
Also i saw all kinds of wires + connectors and some kind of pressure-tube thing for airbags ?? I thought the cupseats do'nt have sideairbags ??

I might open a new topic on this ; i really hope someone can help us (Clio Luke, you should also get buckets ;) ) First i thought of asking in here because we're practicly doing the same mods

Before i do stupid things and start cutting the bloody things out... help

^^ Underneath the car you'll see rubber 4 rubber caps for seat, remove them and you'll see the bolts holding the runners in. The inner 2 for each seat are a pig to get to.

i had my acoustic valve removed about a month ago and i cant tell any difference in noise but it feels a lot better to drive?

I ripped my acoustic valve out, or manback did! It revs lots more freely and if you plant the throttle at low revs it seems to pick up lots better. :D
