Removing Center Console Display

Hi guys.....I know there are tons of info on removing the dash and changing bulbs of the LCD but my college in work consists that I don't have to remove the whole top of the dash and just remove the half circle shape covering the display and then unscrew the 2 bolts behind them and way you go........he says " he has done it this way "
It's an MK2 PH1

Could this be possibly true!!!!??????

The ph2s defo need dash removing but maybe ph1s u dont!

i have a ph 1 and cant see of any way you could get it off seperate, it is a different which could explain the picture showing it as a seperate piece

I think from looking at that pic and at my own that the top part of the dash would have to come off before you could access the screws...
