Removing sound deadening and tar pads

Has anyone removed the sound deadening and tar pads but retained a full interior?

I'm looking to lighten the car without loosing front/rear seats, carpet, door cards, dash etc.

If so I was wondering has it made the cabin noticably louder inside or not?

I don't think it's worth bothering with if you're keeping everything else.

I am guessing you don't have any idea how heavy the tar patches are then?

well worth doing IMO.

The one on the roof is over 3kg IIRC. I reckon there's 10-15kg to be had if you take overy single one out.

I know how much the stuff weighs! I've done it on a couple of cars in the past but they were purely loud track biased cars so it didn't really matter if it made the car noticable noisier.

My main concern is road noise intruding the cabin. The Mrs won't like it...

Lol she'll be using it too, it's my 2nd/weekend car.

There is a big section up in the roof above the front seats, mine came in at 2.9kg.

Several sections of it in the front footwells, along the tunnel, under the front seats, up the section that comes up to the rear bench, a bit more in the boot floor, a section either side in the rear qtrs, 2 more smaller bits behind the rear windows.
in the engine bay, there is a few more bits under the wiper motor and heater blower box against the bulkhead.

I'd say 17 - 20 kg lost if you get them all.

The bit in the centre. Transmission tunnel.

To the OP I can't see it being that much louder in the cabin once the carpet/s are back in.

A tip for removing the C pillar patches as access is limited. I bought one of these

This started the process then when I had worked enough, I heated the edge of a wallpaper scraper and slid that down to melt the glue further as well as applying a little heat from a heat gun.

Heatgun and scraper. Heat a section around 6 inches square at a time by continually moving the heat gun across the surface slowly until the patch just begins to bubble. You will then be able to remove the section in one piece. Each section should come up in 3 pieces.

Then use a cheap spray on tar remover for the residue. 3 large cans should do the whole car.
