renault 5 turbo club

  Titanium ph1 turbo

Im thinking of starting a website for owners of renault 5 turbos.. theres already a popular one on the net but it charges £££ to be a member, which I think is a bit much for people who just want to access a forum to speak about the car and related matters...

If I was to setup an alternative club would anyone be interested in helping me get it off the ground? I plan to run it free, so no membership payments etc...

Primarily I want it to be for more mature owners with good examples, no boy racers or body kitted crap...

suggestions?

Surely the whole point of forums and clubs are to welcome all people - saying you want to avoid this type and that just makes it seem so unwelcoming... I constantly read it on every forum about certain types of people who are not so welcome and people being against modifications etc etc. Do those type of cars attract many mature owners too?? From going to an RTOC meet before, they were all fairly young.

invariably the more mature owners/enthusiasts dont seem to spend much time on internet forums, so success is going to be difficult

i would say every 1 on rtoc well most of the active members are 20-40 odd... hardly young...

rtoc charges 15 quid yeh... but its 10 quid there after and most of the members have a HUGE amount of knowledge on the car and can help with probs etc... it charges a premium and people get to use the forums if they are members to stop people posting sh*t...

+ rtoc is a smallish club yet we manage to rent santa pod each year for a day with overnight camping and the rwyb the next day is free... most bigger clubs dont do that, this 1 doesnt for sure lol...

there are a few free gtt clubs... non of them have survived or worked very well...

but i would say rtoc is good im a area rep lol...

join rtoc the 15 quid is worth it for the site features and the extra things like the wizard and the forums... plus if u recomend members you get ferther discounts on your renual!

ne way up to u, good luck if u do it.

from being a member of RTOC, id say your never gonna compete with them, the level of knowledge on those cars of the people on that forum, your never gonna find elsewhere

yeh but whats annoying is for people who just want to ask 1 or 2 questions you have to pay £15 to join..

I just wanna ask if anyone can source me some door stickers for my 5... is it worth £15 to ask that?..

Im going to press on and make my own alternative place for those who dont want to pay to speak on a forum... Ill keep you all posted.

yeh BRUN, I used to be a member about 4-5 years ago... I still think that what they charge for membership is excessive for what you get. From my point of view this is what I think of it:

They have in excess of 1000 members, although a few years ago when I had membership that was closer to 2000 members. At £10 per member say, thats £10,000/year they make, plus money from advertising etc.. why? ... £10,000 a year to run a website which doesnt change much, is run mostly by the members who pay (in terms of adding content), and gives a printed letter and a keyring + sticker in the post...

I think its time there was a sensible free alternative to paying, because im fairly sure that a lot of people who use the club only require access to a forum to speak to other members about bits and pieces...

I am a member of rtoc and it is the best owners club i have come across. The members are all very helpful and if you encounter any problems with the r5 engine just post them on the forum and you will get a reply within a couple of min. imo it is definatly worth the £15 joining fee as you save money not having to buy the haynes manual lol.

Although you can never have enough owners clubs so the more the merrier and good luck if you do decide to set it up.

RTOC is well worth just over £1 per month (for the 1st year...cheaper after) !! :D

If you dont wanna join in.. why dont you just ask your 1 or 2 questions per year on here?? Im sure youll get an answer from the peeps here for them.

;)
