Why do they feel the need to fit different calipers to the same models?

Why not just pick one and use it for all of them?

Now that you mention it....

Why on earth did my spankin new 182 have Lucas calipers? Are they like a big supplier of calipers?

price bargaining with suppliers i reckon. they move around suppliers to get better prices so you get a variation in parts. on the whole though they do use the same parts for lots of models.
