req: cam belt guide.

ok so looking at my 172 engine and looking at howto change the cambelt i suddenly stopped scratched my head and resumed drinking jd and coke and thought id come on here first.

reply please if you have changed a belt urself and or have a guide of how to do it, without a haynes manual im not gonna bother experimenting with this as its not an engine im used to, ive built and rebuilt lots of engines in the past all vauxhall and on fiat but never touched a renault before.

I've got the guide on how to do it.

But since you havn't done it before havn't the tools and the experiance pay a garage with the correct tools and have done it before else you'll be almost definatly scrapping your engine as it will go wrong.

Many a good garage have done 172/182 belts before now without the tools as "they know what there doing" and written the engine off.

Looking to supply my own and have them fitted.

just read the guide, thanks for sending tht mate, and im always one for attempting something but fk this, its off to renault lol not risking it far to much involved in changing that belt. ill gladly pay the experts for a 72k service even tho its only covered 51k,

Tony, I'm in the process of getting 36k service with cam/aux belts replaced. I was quoted £940 from Lookers on StMary's Way..Cheapest i've found so far with recomendations is Adrian Wilsons of Leek £450 inclusive, OEM parts,synthetic oil etc..er £550 ish with new water pump too!!

yikes thats rediculous, why is everything renault so damn complicated, so damn expensive and so unreliable, i love the car but think ive made a bad choice moving from my cheap n chearfull vauxhalls.

The engine a tight fit so its a long time to get at it.

Good luck with getting it sorted, shame these little cars have such small engine bays!

I'm lost geography wise in the Uk but if your near Portsmouth drop rentech a call (Mike@Rentech on here) a call. Otherwsie if your near exmouth Carlton garage would do you a good price (clarkie V6 on here or somehting like that forum name)

Thanks for the info, Im in Surrey about 35 miles away from London, so Portsmouth is a bit of a mission. Does any one know any Renault specialists in this area?
