Right then! Update... most know, the engine i fitted was knocking like a b*****d. thought it was tappets to begin with. but alas...no

Sooo I decided to stop fannying about and look for a propper F7R A 700 which i found in telford with a man called dan.

A trip to telford found this blokey with a car in primer paint... tbh it looked a bit of a dog, the stupid sod had removed the sunroom using liquid swartz. Think the car was going to get painted Brands Hatch Red? but i dunno.

at which point harvy and lesley turned up.... admittedly i was quite embarresed to of been caught poolishing my nob.... but this was quickly diffused.....

Harv works like a mad man..... In fact i feel useless in comparrisson.

Hubs were removed and shafts out, then all unessesaty things dissconnected then crane in and hitched up with an old seatbelt and engine removed......

we then spent a few hours removing all bits off the old one and fitting to the new one.

Old and New

how the frig do i sort out the lights?! no idea im gonna get them to do it and just fit a non blue bulb!

Ive had some willy shocks delivered to me now aswell..... wassnt going to fit new tyres with camber like that tbh! So some nice willy items will do.

Going to my mates next week for tyres and balencing, should my tyres arive in time.

Brake hose will be fixed with a cable tie or one of those round spacers i have on the other side hose?

Then its retest time and on to stage 2 :)
ok chip fitted! went for a quick spin cannot tell you how different the car is now its running a propper 2.0 chip, TORQUE!!! WOOW!

and a video for those that said i couldnt just have a go at doing my own ecu!

and a video of the oil pressure
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gY2HCyISg8

ok bit of an update, i promised more videos.

Basically the Headgasket failed and the car got me really ****ed off tbh, so i thought fudge it. and took her to Jday Engineering (www.dayspeed.com) and got them to sort the bloody thing out!

So while she was in there i got a few things done...rude not to init!

new headgasket uprated steel kevlar gasket
head skimmed and rebuilt with new stem seals (bit smokey on over run)
Piper Vernier Pullies Fitted and timed up
Kent Cams RN2002 260* cams fitted to the above
a custom made "foxys" 5th mount
Everything rebuilt and a good checking over.

Well they have possibly the worst suppliers in the world but their work is very good indeed. They have a "we can do it" attutude which i love!

Their reports were...."**** this thing shifts" engine conversion is very tidy, and apart from a loose water temp sender (DOH!) very solid conversion!

£699 well spent!

My report.

5th engine mount, wow what a difference! engine dossnt move! gear changes feel fantastic! Reaally really reccomended to any mk1/ 172 owner with manual steering. completely different!

Cams and Pullies
Well to be honest i couldnt wait to see these! I started the car and .....nothing it was as smooth as silk...gutted...then all of a sudden "thub thub der der der thub thub"...Woop a lumpy idle....i know i shouldnt like this as its crap mapping... but the car hassnt been mapped...and i love it! Then out on the roadtest.... initially i wassnt that convinced by the cams, it still pulled like a 2.0 i had before, but couldnt really notice any major difference?! Then i took her past 5krpm to see she dossnt drop off at all power delivery is strong and very smooth and linier right to the limiter! It just pullls and pulls and pulls! TBH i cannot wait to get the next stages in and sorted! to tweek this! The cams have given the car a different exhaust note its more raspy than i would of liked but its growing on me!

Hope you enjoyed The Wukbrid life story, long may she continue to upset newer cars!

ok bit of an update for y'all with Highs and Lows

another gearbox bites the dust

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/zmaster2k/ce2980cd.jpg

So now went and splurged £570 on a reconditioned JC5-014 (genuine williams gearbox) with a custom bolt in differential that removes the need for a circlip.

As promised here is the shift light fitted and working...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1hL7oRyDMw

Soooo decided if she had made any more power since the cams were fitted. She was recorded with 149bhp last time around.. soo rolling road time

http://www.youtube.com/user/zmaster2k#p ... 4dkdcLkATs

http://www.youtube.com/user/zmaster2k#p ... FU9biDaSRk

She made 176bhp... Fairly stoked about that tbh! was expecting 160ish!(and on further investigation we think it is closer to 160bhp due to RR operator not getting the RPM sync correct so my torque is very low (lower than i was expecting and the graph is interesting! !

TSRWukbridDynoResult.jpg

however on route home... i drove her very very hard indeed! and have subsequently lost compression on cylinders three and two! shitter

Further investigation shows that the car has been running very very lean top end, so has blown the head gasket due to either lean or detonation.
So new head gasket and custom live map are next! soo off the road for a bit, While i save the £450 i need for repairs and remap!

Should be ready for Llandow :D

  Lunar Mk1 & Flamer
Re: The Definitive Wukbrid Project

ok time for an update as some of you are aware.. my car suddenly one day devloped a misfire and was only running on two cylinders, fearing a blown head gasket, i booked it in imediatly with the Cliolord!

car left my hands on a trailer (pimp: http://www.shiply.com) on route to the cliolord

car arived to him and in no time at all i was receiving text messages

Cyl 1= 190 psi
Cyl 2= 18 psi
Cyl 3 =14 psi
Cyl 4 = 190 psi

Looks like the head gasket has indeed blown!

car is quickly instsalled with a lift lol
07122010485.jpg

airbox has been removed
07122010484.jpg

engine mount and fuel pipes disconnected and cam cover removed
07122010486.jpg

Fuel rail disconected
07122010487.jpg

Silicone (ill get to this in a min)
07122010498.jpg

Bottom end locked off and cam belt removed
07122010490.jpg

Camshaft cover removed
07122010491.jpg

07122010492.jpg

More pictures of the silicone...looks like its been applied with a spatula!
oozing out from the cam carriers WTF howmuch you wanna use?!
07122010495.jpg

inside the camcarriers *next to the camshafts!
07122010496.jpg

hope none of that has gone to my oil pick up!

head bolts whizzed off, and a VERY supprising amount of copper grease is all over the bolts (there should be some but not this much!)
as soon as the head is removed you can see the problem!
07122010493.jpg

and for those that cant here is a close up
07122010494.jpg

as you can see the gasket has failed between cylinders 2&3 as inducated by the compression test, and those with a keen eye can also see its about to fail on cylinder 1-2!

closer inspection of the head revealed it failed on the head side of the gasket.
07122010497.jpg

the head has been inspected and verified ISNT warped, so the failure looks like its due to the wrong precedure used to torque down the head bolts, also compuded with the fact that soo much copper grease was used its likly the bolts "hydrolocked" themselves not getting the required torque anyway....but this is alone is a theory...

however yet more silicone was found on the head around the stat housing
07122010499.jpg

The QUALITY lol Bga gasket
07122010505.jpg

Now the block has been inspected and varified as flat, cleaned up and awaiting the next stage

07122010501.jpg

The Cliolord Thought he'd show you the severity of the Silicone that was removed!

11122010515.jpg

11122010516.jpg

Old noisy hydraulic Lifters Removed...they were soo tappy it was unreal!
Also the inlet manifold and throttle body, fuel rail, injectors and loom have been refitted
11122010521.jpg

Brand Spanking New Lifters Fitted.......i think you'll agree with me... sexual (cheers Harv..owe ya a pint me feels)
12122010522.jpg

Cams and newly chemical cleaned carriers refitted along with the patented cliolord "less sealant mod"
12122010523.jpg

arnt they clean now :D
12122010524.jpg

now then exhaust pullies fitted
12122010525.jpg

The engine is now refitted with a cambelt and timed up to standerd manufactuer settings, then using a DTI gauge on the inlet , 1.47mm of lift at TDC was dialed in and set using my piper vernier pullies. This was then done on the exhaust side, but with 1.22mm of lift at tdc and set using the vernier pullies.. These figures were taken from the Kent Cams Website for my RN2002 260degree cams. For reasons i wont go into on here we have not shown this precedure... if you dont know how(like myself) its better you leave this to the professionals.

Visually will show you the difference's in timing

The inlet
Before timing
490aea1b.jpg

(2.9degrees retarded.......not right at all!)

After timing
12122010528.jpg

12 degrees advanced... as it should be!

15 degrees out............15... im genuinly quite shocked about that!

Exhaust timing
Before timing
8f1511a6.jpg

just over 1 degree...hmm

After timing
12122010529.jpg

7 degrees! 6 degrees out!

Coolant has now been added and new oil etc etc

Will get some vids up but the idle is now seriously lumpy!.... to the point now that because the Idle control valve isnt set up for these cams it not opening early enough and she nearly stalls when you rev down... this can be solved with the remap in the new year!

She is sounding savage!

as i mentioned before when i had the cams fitted it was kinda like and anti climax...... the engine reved harder but there wassnt that much different if i was honest! there was more revs that were useable but now less torque... and if im honest ive been kidding myself it was alright since.( i knew no better)

The Basic fact of the matter is... my *uprated* cams were giving less lift at TDC than standerd cams because the timing was soo far out.

Just read through all of that, a shame you had to have it apart so much, lots of bad luck! Guess you wont be going back to the first place you took it who originally fitted the cams!!

what a thread, puts the turbo to shame, however i dont think the maxi bumper suits it, so sell it to me, nudge nudge wink wink, i even have a brand new never fitted williams one to chuck in the deal if needed

The car is 16 years old, this was never going to be a walk in the park, but when it works it makes it all worthwhile

think i preferred your previous valver matt...lol
RIP mate RIP, Will never live up to the standerds of that car i dont think. Although... my exhaust knocks in the same place lol :)

Love the Turbo lol but boost isnt my thing, i go though enough gearboxes as it is! As for the maxi bumper i couldnt swap it for a new williams one item as its the "lesser" 449 in colour i would assume. Pmsl besides... i friggin love it

have put some of my fav4e pics in the media section here

Thats excellent mate! Top work uv done ther, i'v got a quick question or two lol, noticed u had 195 50 r15 tyres, what are they like cause im goin for 15's on my mk1 and im pretty weary of going as low profile as 45, and what kinda front bumper is that, looks lovely!

45s would be too low profile on 15s. 50s are ideal, and the cheapest size to buy

Re: The Definitive Wukbrid Project

You get alot more road noise for the 45 profile IMO.

50 is the one to go for :)

klkl cheers, was told that with 50's it would scrub so is that false? It's lowered bout 35mm my clio

Re: The Definitive Wukbrid Project

love that its very smart ! well done... although instead of spending all that money on that engine there is a ''forged 195bhp'' engine in the for sale thread for a mere 200 quid.. may be worth a look

im of the opinion of if it sounds too good to be true it proberly is... fed up of ebay idiots, selling 200bhp 1.8 16v's with a chip and a filter

like to think i know my engine quite well tbh!

Re: The Definitive Wukbrid Project

Well what can I say, after my car ate it's nice quality BGA head gasket due to detonation me using wrong fuel!

Car was delivered to the lord where he discovered that the timing was just ludicrously miles out! Gaz spent hours tinkering with my timing in the workshop a few degrees here few there.....anal ain't the word!

So went to pick the car up after it's been fettled!
First impressions was.... Wow it's clean!....then took it for a drive! Firstly my skuttle induction is loud! Very loud! It wasn't like that before! Then there was a usable amount of lower in places I e never had it! Like below 2k!
But as we didn't know if the eni g was detonating we didn't "really" push her!

Next day we drove to Kj16, well what can I say! What a genuinely nice guy! Very enthusiastic about his work!
We took the car straight to the rolling road and ran it up with the very random chip I was using! Kj put some det cans on and had a good listen! No detonation....good times!
Did 4-5 runs on the rollers, each within a fraction of a horse power!

180bhp
143lbs ft
147@ wheels

But the AFR was all over the place running lean low down then rich up top!

Then it was down to kj16v, wired up a wideband and his detcans and ecu emulator and took to the road.....with gaz who was just itching to see what was involved with mapping the stock ecu!

After cleaning up the afr kj set about tweaking the map! After a few hours I was presented with my car for a test......gaz was smiling so thought ok!!!

We don't have an after printout but.....

WOW! Really wow!

Car is just incredible! There is usable power just everywhere! Then it gets to 4.5k and goes nuts! And pulls Hard right to the end if the revrange!
2krpm to 4krpm is also vastly different!

Gaz kept telling me this is what my car always should of been! And now Against JGX his itb'd monster that used to disappear into the distance against my car, it now still gets away from a rolling start but I'm much closer to him than I used to be! (8 car lenghths instead of 4 miles lol)

As it happens we went to the 519 automotive openday, where Danny failed to save me some paddy sausage! So I took my revenge unplugging sensors on paddies car :p

Gave my car to (sideways)Danny for a spin....and he was gone.......a while! He was also very impressed with KJs mapping! But obviously reminded me that cars suspension needs tweaking lol!

So overall result is great! Very very happy!

Kj and Cliolord have changed my car! It's savage!

If you have a stock ecu kj is your man without any doubt!

And we all know cars touched by the lord are special!

BTECWukbridDynoResult.jpg

you should note that the rolling road printout was prior to mapping and the torque scale is not in proportion to the bhp hence the cross over appears to be out. The dip in torque was due to a lean AFR

also gone for A new set of Parada Spec-IIs in 195/50/15 flavour as the old set wernt looking too hot!

Notice how the passenger side is wearing on the inside soo much that the tread has dissapeared... we have deduced that i have a bent shock absorber... so have orderd a new one from Renault Parts Direct... £54 for a genuine williams shocker... would buy 2 but cant find the money just to spend if it dossnt cure it!

a quick polish and some new stickers installed not bad for 15 year old paint!

Re: The Definitive Wukbrid Project

So after reading Ghostvalver/DannyAce/Snowman/Austins projects its given me a boost of inspiration and ive decided its high time my 16 year old clio had a new lease of life the engine that the cliolord and kj 16v have tuned for me is spot on, however the shell has seen better days. So its time i set about getting her resprayed and a few other parts added into the mix and putting my own stamp on the car, without copying andybody else too much.

So currant wishlist sits like this:-
2 x Cobra Evolutions (maybe just one to begin with)
Set of Perspex windows after seeing them on cliodans i want some.
get some welding done.
Maybe a cage....although im not sure yet... but ghostvalvers one makes me seriously wet!
respray ina different colour...as im fed up people asking me if its a williams... to which i have a to say basically it is and it isnt... lol given up explaining.

Stage one..... find a garage i can strip the car in

made a phonecall at lunch time by dinner time i had one
icon_biggrin.gif
sorted!

Moved the car into her and removed the bonnet!
328bac6e.jpg

then removed the wings bumper, wipers, head lights, skuttle pannel
3cd6f175.jpg

then out came the wiper linkage and internal fan makeup and the washer bottle and the old OEM alarm (that i didnt know i had)
bb498bdc.jpg

obviously i would be a fool not to expect some rust... soo here are the bad bits
6567b3f3.jpg

acbc188d.jpg

and the bit that looks like its going to need the windscreen removing to repair...fail....

7d00343d.jpg

what i dont get though is one side of the car is rusty... the other side (passenger side) has light surface rust....
