Reserve fuel tank

The other day i was driving along with 1 bar of fuel left (mines a 2004 so has them digital fuel and temp guages). The computer said i had 51 miles of range left. When it reached 49 miles of fuel left the last bar went out on the fuel guage and the computer range went to --.

Apparently it does this when you use all the fuel in the main tank and start using fuel in the reserve tank.

Does anyone know how many miles if driving carefully you can go on the reserve fuel?

you normally have a gallon left ....around 30 miles worth , not worth risking it to find out though

I did 45 miles on the fuel light and shat myself! Was in an unfamiliar city and couldn't find a petrol station, was driving like a nun.

If it is a gallon then thats about 45 miles worth for me ;) p.s. What would happen if a clio did run out of fuel. Would it be as easy as just filling it up again and driving it or does it do something to the engine if you run out. A mate said you av to do something to the engine before putting more fuel in- something to do with excess air in the engine.

  Shhh
i imagine simply turn the ignition off and on a few times to allow the fuel pump to push the fuel through and away you go.

Simple really.

Its not reserve its just the tank fuel level sensors not that accurate so below a certain level (5 liters or there abouts) it gives up.
How far can you go depends how you drive realy. You've got about 1 gallon. (5 liters is 1.2 gallos but its not that accurate)

If its a petrol no problem might not start first time if you try instantly turn it over as the fuel pipes would have run dry. On a diesel its more difficult as you need to prime the pumps but its still no huge issue.

on my clio, 1.2 the same as yours the light comes on at 58ish miles, and ive pushed it once to 50 but the car was shuddering a bit when i floored it!!

wouldnt do it again, one of my mates has a 1.6 51 plate and his regularly says 100+ miles and then just cuts out, hes used to it now and just carried a can in his boot for when it happens!!

  RARE Unmolested Corsa sxi
i got to newport and back with the warning light on. around 50-ish miles in total.
