Just got back. Got a few pics I'm uploading now. Sadly it's not 100% finished as a few nightly little clips broke due to both brittleness and my ham fisted self. Trip to the dealers on monday then.

Right. Before I start this update I have to confess to being a little bit homosexual. I don't want to do any 'reveal' shots as it were, I want to save it for CSS.

(gay!!!)

But anyway, I got there this morning and it had only come out of the paint booth at 5pm last night so it was looking (imo) bloody amazing. I was dancing around like a freak and Dave (the painter) just laughed at me. A) for acting like a child and 2) for spending this much money on a M reg clio...

So with the car all painted and dusted down, I started to get my tools out to put it back together...

Oh no! Dave had other ideas. Turns out he's given it two coats of lacquer. He wants us to flat the whole car back to get rid of any imperfections and get it as glass like as possible.

So, we got flatting....

Then once that was done, he got the rotary out and polished the whole car up to a shine like i've never seen!!!

This is what it looked like before we flatted it back....

So, there it is.

I will update a little bit over the next few days while finishing it properly.

Cheers.

Oh believe me its not! Inside is caked in about 3mm of dust. Its everywhere. I'm going to have to remove all the interior one night next week and get it all wet-vac'd. Even the insides of the doors and tailgate there is a 1m pile of dust thats settled.

Not looking forward to that bit.

I'm proud of you.

I understand your excitement re: the car though mate, got mine back from the bodyshop today too :D

Naples is such an awesome colour. I think I want a valver.

Looks great dude! Wish i was going to CSS now to see it :(

Gotta be honest Naples is lovely... and fresh paint on a mk1 just looks amazing tbh.

Also in regards to the "dance" you did when you saw it painted.... dont worry... i did EXACTLY the same when i saw my Mk1 in its "Correct" Lunar Grey paint.

perfectly normal reaction

Going to look amazing. IMO it would look perfect on some refurb'd turbines, always preferred them to the later valver alloys that yours has.

I don't think you've grasped the concept of 'original' ?

Turbines look pants on a naples

FACT!

I tried it and it didn't work. Nicest it ever looked was on silver willy wheels but still looked good on ph2's...

i dunno one of the best Restos ive seen on a mk1 was a naples and i thought it looked the b****cks on Ph2's

So the deadline is getting close and tbh, I'm cacking it. No idea if its going to be as 'finished' as i'd like ready for CSS.

Tonight I went down to the unit to try and make a dent in the (quite frankly mammoth!) task of cleaning it after its spent a week in a dusty bodyshop with no windows in it...

Here are the pics of it when I got there tonight... (Note i'm driving it around with no sunroof! lol)

Every single part of the interior is covered in this dust. Bear in mind I already blew the bulk of it out with an airline before I left the bodyshop but this is whats left.

So I just spent two hours (!!) hoovering and wiping the interior down. Used an entire bottle of interior cleaner (my own blend) and 12 microfibres. And a brush for the gaps.
I have literally just got home and i'm knackered but its getting there.

Just waiting on some bits from Renault tomorrow, collect my centre caps on thursday night and then I can put the final pieces on and spend all day friday giving it a proper clean. Hopefully not in the rain!!

Wow! That is something else, how much will you be selling up for?

If someone wants to make me an offer I'll consider it but I have no plans to sell it. Yet.

Looks amazing now it's resprayed mate.

Who's Mk1 Escort is that? (well shell anyway)

Mk1 Fiesta supersport. One elderly owner from new, 52,000 miles. Currently undergoing a bare shell restoration.

Wheels aren't as good as I'd hoped but I can address that later on in the year. Centre caps are being done in the original dark grey. Sticking as close to factory as possible.

So do you think you'll keep this one, as it's unlikely you'll get back what you've put in,
or will your car dealer brain get the better of you, make you flog it and move on to something else?

To be honest, i've considered breaking my track car and keeping this in the garage, only using it for sunny days etc. But tbh i've no idea really. I am proper obsessed with it though. I couldn't take itto the supermarket for example incase someone dents it. I literally want to wrap it up in cotton wool and that's not healthy...

I know i'll never get all my money back, I never do but I enjoy doing all the work more than owning a finished car. Once they're finished I kind of lose interest. My williams3 owed me in excess of £5k by the time it was finished and I only sold it for £3695. My last ph1 owed me in excess of £4k but I sold it for £3000.... You get the picture!
